Section Of Final Alignment To Open On I-75 At I-24 Interchange In Hamilton County
Ok friends, once again they’re choking things down to one lane overnight to open up extra lanes.
Things gonna get spicy again.
So far, the improvements seem to be helping but my concern with this one is it sounds a little counter intuitive.
Remember, 75 north outta Georgia, 24 WEST you need the right lanes, 75 north needs left lanes.
Watch out for the chowder heads where it gets close to the gore point that are stopping in the center traffic lane to cut the line.

Duh… Do I follow the signs or my gps?

It is a nightmare right there. The last time I went through there, I got stuck in traffic over an hour. The traffic gets backed up all the way into Georgia, and there really isn't too many signs. There's more lanes to continue on 75 than it is to continue through Chattanooga. If you're in that hammer lanes once you get into Tennessee, you're going to have a time getting over if you need to get on 24. It's not much time and space from Georgia line to 24, given the amount of traffic. I always just stay in the granny lane coming out of Georgia because I always know what's looming. It's just easier(im my opinion) to take the loss of time than to try to get in at the last minute with such high traffic. So most will follow their GPS, but they try to stay in the passing lanes til they run out of real estate. Then when you get kn the interchange to transition to 24, the ramp shuts down to one lane til your in a very narrow, and 45 speed limit flow of traffic. That #### is so bad, there should be detention pay for traveling there.Flat Earth Trucker and TNSquire Thank this.

Whoever thought up that design should be taken out back and hit with sticks.
It was the easiest project ever. 75 north, right lane, 24 west/north left lane. No big deal. Instead, they decided to make a science project out of it. SMHFlat Earth Trucker, TNSquire, kemosabi49 and 2 others Thank this. -
Us local drivers know the train wreck it is, and when that excitement is gonna happen, cause it happens daily.
75 north outta Georgia to continue up 75 north, we get all the way left just past cloud springs road, and slide on through. Irritates four wheelers to no end, cause they wanna fly through there, but it’s better than the second lane where tards full stop to cut in to catch 24 west. Mostly, it’s that center lane (3rd from left and right) where idiots full stop to cut in, which bleeds into the 2nd lane from left. Dangerous as hell, causes wrecks almost daily.
There is a bypass on surface streets to get around all that - cloud springs to 27 through rossville to 24, picks back up at the bottom of the ridge cut and fairly clear sailing from there.
Second alternate is only possible if you’re less than 11-4 total height- train bridge can opener on broad going over lookout comes out at exit 174. Tight but totally doable in a semi, but only if you’re short enough to get under that bridge. Box trucks eat it there all the time, and so do van and reefers unaware of the bridge height.
Very difficult to get turned around in heavy traffic and tight streets there, so be aware.
Highly likely you’ll get ticketed when the cops show up, and they always seem to be around the corner.
Be safe out there.Flat Earth Trucker, A Bug and bryan21384 Thank this. -
You can turn right on Germantown Rd off US 41 from 75N to get to 24W. That's the last turn before the low bridge so anyone going that way most definitely don't want to miss that turn. This assumes Germantown Rd exit is open which may or may not be the case. I hardly ever go that way so I dunno but I go to Chattanooga a lot. I prefer Battlefield Pkwy GA highway 2 over to US27N to 24W that's always been the best way.Flat Earth Trucker, wulfman75 and TNSquire Thank this.

UPDATE-
They opened it up!!!
It’s an improvement, but still a bit of a poo show.
75s to 24 w - 3 lanes go into 24, get in the LEFT LANE AS IT SPLITS - the 2 right lanes drop off the exit. That’s messing a lot of people up at the moment, and causing problems as folks slow to get left to continue up 24.
75 n to 24 w - right lane as you go over the bridge and you’ll land in the center lane going up 24.
75n still goes from 5 lanes to 3 by the golf course. Center lane is best for trucks… you can roll straight up 75, or drop a lane to catch 153 after it opens up. East brainerd exit is quick and short ramp and cars get stupid there, panicking because they’re flying into it at Mach Jesus.
Be safe out there!Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
I gotta say I had such high hopes for it but I'm really disappointed. The southbound 75 to 24 west is F'd up and I really can't see how that's ever going to be anything other than a major clusterF every rush hour. Why oh why couldn't they make 2 of the 3 lanes become 24W? Haven't seen the 75N to 24W yet.

It’s considerably better than it was, though i think they underestimated the sheer volume of traffic through there… and there really isn’t any alternatives to speak of that are reasonably efficient.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this.
