Ok ok... I went ahead and bought me a 800OTR.
(BTW... they have som great 6 foot tall teddy bears at Sapp Bros in Clearfield PA. They apparently sold half of them already. I don’t have anybody to give one to. Otherwise would have bought one. They have huge chairs for them too)
Anyways...I’ll run both of them for a while. Let you know my thoughts.
First impressions. Nice. Better suction cup mount for window. Screen looks better. Software is more involved. Not as simple.
In this picture. The 800 is a little more toward me. So it sits higher. Can adjust it. I’ll see later. The 800 is just a tiny bit bigger than the 770 outside dimensions. Picture is a little deceiving.

The 800 is much faster at everything.
Dino soar, F4T6UY and singlescrewshaker Thank this. -
Entering address of home terminal. It wouldn’t come up with it till I entered the zip code. Wanted to ignore City as part of the name. Then give me all kinds of the first part in other states. But not mine. I’m getting sick and tired of programming that has to think for you. Then it’s out in left field with no comprehension.
I’m going to wait to bookmark truck stops. Use it’s searched result. Will have all the other info there with it.
Yes I use the truck stops very much. I’ll hop across the country targeting Sapp Bros. They give us a great discount. Also have some no brand name truck stops with best fuel prices.F4T6UY Thanks this. -
I’m liking the 800.
Better screen. Can see it good with my polarized sun glasses on.
More labeling and show of other roads.
One thing that irritated me with my 770. Leave me disoriented.F4T6UY Thanks this. -
Same fooling around on approach to destination. When the 770 kept it straight this time. Must be in how the processor calculates.
F4T6UY Thanks this. -
The 800 is giving me less errant hazard demands. Like road closed. Weight of bridge. No trucks allowed. I just say less. Not eliminated. 770 irritates me with these. They’re flat out wrong.
I’m running Hammer more. Stopped paying for trucker path. Hammer is as good.
I’m not crazy about the 800 being much more complicated. Got to go through three choices to look for truck stops. What the h! does Garmin expect? It’s an OTR truck gps for cryin’ out loud.
All the gps’s are goofy. Run all three at once. Get a pretty good idea. Love and use the satellite view on Hammer. Can actually see. Zoom in and out easy. Not quite the resolution of trucker path. Oh well. -
Looks like you don’t have the up ahead menu up. You can click the three bottom right corner and select a sub screen that will pop up on the side.
I compared my 700otr with my LMTS and the 700 beats it hands down.
Only reason you have to bring up city because the street is common and it searches around you for the address and a few other states, I think it’s set to maybe 500 mile circumference. If it’s multiple states away I just put in the city and select state.
I do agree some things need to be changed. Like preferred truck stops, and so on.
To make it easier if you have the Garmin app, you can set your destination on your phone and send it to the unit. Much faster.Siinman Thanks this. -
I should play with the garmin app.
The up ahead menu doesn’t list much. When I look for truck stops. It’s more than an hour away.
Manual city and state I do a lot.
I don’t like that Garmin doesn’t concentrate truck stop findings on the path I’m taking. I suggested it to them before. With all the fancy setup they came up with. They could have done that.BlueThunderr Thanks this. -
My OTR only shows truck stops on my path. Not sure why yours doesn’t.
have you updated your OTR?
