    Like i said,i didn't doubt your numbers.

I was just saying that a young O/O with no savings and big payments to make might not be able to wait for the better loads.

    Ps i make my living with 50 000miles a year.:yes2557:

Yes they can wait for better loads too, if their payments are that high that they can't then they won't need to worry about it for long anyway. Because the bank or IRS will take their truck back.

heres an example i loaded on tuesday , had 2 drops, will make final drop friday. 1518 miles will clear 2000 dollars. will reload friday to texas wont deliver til next friday in texas. 12,000 pounds no tarp , 1650 miles including deadhead, will clear 2350 dollars.

    i can handle that.

This afternoon for a backhaul to a customers plant , I picked up 1 empty 20' container for $1.25 / mile , ran 6 miles added a second 20' container also empty for $1.25 / mile now running them both 300 miles for $2.50 / mile and getting over 7 MPG .

    1. There are 2 types of expenses- fixed and variable.
    2. For financial accounting purposes you may classify some costs differently than you will for tax purposes- I count depreciation as a variable (mileage based) expense for my financials, but it's a fixed cost for tax purposes.
    3. The more miles you run, the lower your fixed costs per mile become.
    4. Community College level business mgmt. teaches that if you are covering your variable costs and making a contrbution to your fixed costs, you have a business. If your operations don't cover your variable costs, you have a bankruptcy in the making.
    5. There may well be more than one effective business/plan model to achieve success in the transportation industry. I won't even talk about mine- I would be royally flamed, but it allows me to live where I do and amanage my other affairs. Nobody on this thread should worry about defending what works for them- Let a thousand flowers bloom!

Here's is my weeks run to CA and back. All numbers are to the truck BEFORE fuel costs

    Kokomo, IN to Calexico $6,267
    AZ to Bakersfield $1,082
Bakersfield to Chicago $3,044 (2 crate LTL, hoping to add more to it)

My total to the truck for all miles (including deadhead) $10,393 for 4,837 miles..... $2.14 mile to the truck. Not the best, but it was light loads and easy money.

Ouch, the load to Chicago really screwed your average.

Yeah, but it's only taking up 25' of the trailer and 7,000# so I'm hoping to add something else along with it. I have a week to line it up and a few days on the trip. If I can just add a another LTL, it's not too bad.

If not, it gets me home and to a better market. I don't see $1.55 mile for a LTL as a bad rate, when there are plenty of heavy truckloads at the same rate going back east.

If you can find something else along the way then that could turn out very nice. I thought that was for a full load. There is no short supply of $1.50pm freight out here in cali that is truck load. But there is definitely some $2.00+ freight out here.
