You may be able to register it in another state but that presents its' own challenges, proving residency etc. If you were able to do that and then bring it back to CA the back fees would be gone.

Back fees for what, you mean the previous owner didn't put an non op on the truck ? If so, your screwed !!! Wildcat has the right idea, Look for a friend, relative in another state and register it there. You should of done research before you bought, It happen to me when I bought my first trailer back in 1986, the previous owner WAS my buddy but had parked it and he got a ticket for it, he claims he didnt know about it, long story short, it cost me about 1000.00 on past registration and fines. I had to pay it cause I had some work done on the trailer so I couldnt give it back to him. LESSON LEARNED. You always learn through your mistakes.

For what its worth, I had a jeep in California that let the registration expire for a few years, didn't non-op it (oops). Ended up giving it to my Dad in Washington. He even inquired about the back registration in CA with WA DMV, they didn't care, he just had to pay the normal WA transfer fee. Not sure if that would be the same case with a CMV, but outta state registration may be an option. The back fees will always be on the CA record if it ever cam back into the state for registration.

Diesel Dave...at least in CA new owners are not responsible for past parking and moving violation tickets by previous owners. If your date of title was after the date of the ticket, you shoulda been able to get that cleared. For back Licenses and Registration...you're screwed.

Wow, that's retarded. Attaching the fees to the truck instead of the person. The truck didn't do it. Another gov't ploy to make sure they get their money. They do that with satellite receivers, cell phones and real estate too. Always check before you buy a used one. I feel for you. I hope you find a way around it.

I'm next door to Oklahoma. It used to be one of the cheapest. I used that years ago. I hear now most are getting close to the same.

Depend on what the fees are no matter what you will have to pay them before you or anyone can register it in any state
