I am not going to tell you what to do but if you take ten straight hours in the sleeper berth you will be better off because you only have 14 hours to do everything you need to do. Get a Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulation and look through 396.1-396.25 pg. 145 this will help you with anytime that has to do with trucking meaning the different sections and what people can do and what they can not do yo you.

If you have 2 consecutive hours of sleeper during your drive period then you have to only take 8 hours sleeper at the end of your drive period to get back your new days drive/work hours, I do not like to park for the 10 hours so I will usually break up my schedule so I take my 2 during the day and my 8 at night for a total of 10, if you do not take the 2 off then you are required to take the entire 10 at days end
Unless I am wrong, that's how I have always don itquick28573 Thanks this. -
The 2 will give you back the drive hours you used before the 8. The two will also move the starting point of your 14 to then end of the 8.
2 hour break cannot stop the 14, however 8 in the sleeper can.
i can only confuse you if I completely explain it. -
So here is my issues tomorrow when I get loaded I will have to go straight to my 90 so I have two options I can get loaded and sit around sleep and then drive straight to get unloaded at 0530 wedensday or drive early tomorrow and get down there but will only have enough sleeper berth to take 8 hours then I would have some time back to head to my 90... So if I understand I can take 8 drive to my 90 and take 2 and have all my time back?

You don't get any time back for just taking an 8. Just taking an 8 in sleeper stops your 14. After your 8 you only have whatever is left on your 11 that you had at the time you took the 8.
Now take a two after the 8, and you get the drive hours you used before the 8. The 2 does not stop the 14. Whether you take a 8 or 2 the 14 always starts from the end of the previous break. So you take the 2 after the 8, the 14 starts from the end of the 8. Vice versa if you take a two then an 8 the 14 will start from the end if the 2 break, however 8 in sleeper stops the 14 and pushes it out the length of the 8 break.
you can never exceed 11 hours drive clock. There always has to be a 10 break to get a full 11 at the end of the break. Split breaking keeps 11 to be used, but you only get back the hours used before the previous break.
so if you want to split make sure you break within the distance you can cover within that 11 or you will find yourself taking an extra 8 or 2 to get where you need to go if you have an appt.quick28573 Thanks this. -
It's very confusing. I only understood it when I saw it here ---> http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/topics/hos/hos-logbook-examples.htm
So if you're always taking split 8 and 2, your starting point keeps moving. It's confusing, like I said. It didn't make sense to me until I saw the examples.Last edited: Dec 2, 2013

basically you will have whatever is left of 11 minus what you drove to the 90.
What distances we talking here? Cause if the distance to the shipper and then the receiver is more than you can cover in 11 hours you won't make it.
example 1: use 4 hours drive to get to shipper, you take an 8, you only have 7 hours drive clock to get to receiver. Taking a 2 at receiver will get you 4 back to add to whatever is left of that 7. -
