Here is a link to a FMCSA guide book to HOS. If you look at page 5 it explains on duty but doesn't seem to specific. Doesn't mention the form of permission needed but I did read over section 395.2 like it suggested and did see explanations for written permission to log off-duty for meals and other routine stops. Still alot of scenarios which could lead to problems. Wonder if the DOT officials even know all of these? FMCSA http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/truck/driver/hos/fmcsa-guide-to-hos.pdf section 395.2 http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regu...fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=395.2&guidence=Y
When it's all said and done, you are on a 70 hour, 7 day week... PERIOD. You don't stretch, create another logbook, or fudge,... and, if you can't follow simple rules, you get out of the truck and let a professional drive. Simple answer, TEAM.
Really not being confrontational, just decided to do this math on here rather than a piece of paper I'll eventually throw away... There are 24 hrs in a day, 24x7=168 hours in a week. 11.5 hr working (11 drive .5 pre/post trips & fuel) then 10 sleeper. 11.5+10+11.5+10+11.5+10+11.5+10+11.5+10+11.5=119 hours (69 on duty/driving) 168-119=49. So, with a 34 hour reset, 49-34=15, you could work 84 hours in seven days legally but with shippers/receivers and the fact that this will pretty much exhaust anyone... It's next to impossible but as far as I can tell perfectly legal. Oh yeah and you better have a colostomy bag! Discuss!!
LOL thats funny. but 70 hours is 70 hours and not one minute more. and it's 8 days. 8.75 hours per day. and you'll never have to do a recap. but i prefer to use up my 70. make money. and have the weekend off.
The rule is 70 hours before you must take a 34 hr reset. A couple 14 hour days and you get even more drive time. Not recommending it. Im just saying its possible. I run til they stop giving me loads and use my trip plans to decide if I can make it or not and always try be one hour early to anywhere... If I get very far under 20 hrs on my clock I request a reset... Just me
I didn't know that the 8/70 could be so complicated. What are you going to do when the new rules go in effect ?
You having problems like that with paper logs wait till u have electronic logs talk about screwing up a sleep patter and having to go thru a lot of bull on planning
I am paying for the room, but I also make enough money to justify spending $80 a night on a room over idling my truck for 34 hours straight.
Some what true, but you also have to rememeber that if you were to get into an accident you'd be in some serious trouble. And if for some terrible reason it wound up being a fatal accident, you'd be in prision. Just because you have an extra log book in your truck by no means you should run over your allowed time. Don't get me wrong, I've done it, but at this point I've learned thnat the gain is not worth the risk. Now if you are 1 hour from home and your 11 hours is up, that risk is might be less to you. I'm not telling anyone how to drive, or how to operate at all, just asking you realize the risk and punishment that may come from your decisions. And as for "making time", that might be possiable in some situations, but mine was the fact I had driven from Chicago to Los Angeles, then up to San Francisco and was heading back to Milwaukee. Can't make time when you can actually drive it in 70 hours. Even If I only had 30 min for loading and unloading and only 30 min for fueling and PTI/Post Trips, I couldn't have logged it in 70. A DOT cop knows how to add miles driven and divide by the speed limit LOL
