Clutch usually comes in between 2500-3000 I can't speak for the bell housing on the transmission and what that will cost, last clutch I had put in took 5 days after dropping the truck off when I could have put it in over the weekend but couldn't find anybody to help wrestle 800lbs of iron out of the truck. The bell hosting will add to your bill but I don't see why it would be $6000. Sounds to me like you're getting the shaft. Look at the bill carefully before paying it. Very carefully. My bill for the last clutch was originally 3200 I was also charger do 100 pints of synthetic fluid a different clutch than the one I had put in, and some other odds and ends.

I did most of my own work and a clutch would be 8-10 hour job once I had parts. Depended whether my boy was around to help or not

Usually it is. Also, it can be depending on the truck too though.

I have done clutch jobs where you had to take so much stuff off just to get to the transmission that you had as much time taking off and replacing other parts as you did the clutch job itself

Last clutch I had installed was $350.00 labor ( long time shade-tree mechanic who came to my place and did it ), 40 bucks to turn flywheel, bearing was about 25 bucks, exchange HD re-man clutch was less than 500, 35 dollars to rent a transmission jack. Took better part of a day.F/Liner with 10 speed.
Before that had dealer do the same, same truck, maybe 7 years ago. , $2675.

Why dont you guys re-read his post.
Its not a simple clutch job.

Hes got a pile of carnage under there.

Clutch, flywheel, bell housing, flywheel housing and probley a new transmission to go along with it and who knows what else.. ..........

You get the picture yet. Everyone thinks hes getting the shaft when in all honesty the guys doing the repair might just be good ol boys doing the best they can.

I know how much #### costs and how much parts add up when things are left so long the dam transmision is almost on the ground.

I once was at the shop and a guy walks in from the road and said my truck truck wont start, can you guys put a starter in for me??.
We all go out to have a look and the start motor was hanging by the cables.
It still had part of the flywheel housing attached to it. There was a hole in the side of the block where the conrod came thru and blew the starter right off the engine. It was a N 14.
    Driver had no clue!!!
See where im going with this...............

Absolutely swaan, i agree 110%. I dont think some of these guys has ever actually priced or installed a flywheel housing! Id be surprised if this guys bill is less than 10k after this repair.

I think the op has much more damage and like said before not a simple clutch job. Not sure what you had going on but sounds like you got screwed for a simple clutch job. $3200 is outragious, Should be closer to $1800-$2000. Parts and labor.

Parts alone for just a clutch job are around a $1,000. I can't imagine a typical clutch job costing less than $2,000 with labor probably a little more. But like was said there's a LOT more expense here in OP's scenario than a routine clutch job.

I know a lot of guys on here talk about some cheap clutch jobs who the #### changes a clutch out for $350!? That is crazy. I guess it is OK for mechanics to work for free but everyone raises holy hell when other carriers gladly haul for free?

What I would like to know is where are all these cheap mechanics who do good work? None of them live around me. It's hard enough finding one charging a reasonable $100 an hour rate who knows their ### from a hole in the ground. I say that is a reasonable rate because I think anyone wrenching for a living for $75 or $50 or whatever is REALLY selling their skillset short and no different than all these buck a mile owner operator heroes.

It's too bad you're not located closer to Pennsylvania. I'd hire you in a heartbeat! (Provided you proved yourself)
