That ehow explanation is about the most ridiculous load of big gubmint dribble I have ever read on the interwebs. It claims that congress can pass a law then add "this overrides the tenth amendment". LOL! According to ehow, they could say "nobody can write a news story about congress" then add "this law preempts the first amendment"....

If the tenth amendment states that laws not covered in the enumerated powers are to be written by the states then you have to tell me what part of the enumerated powers act says congress can make a FEDERAL law about the length of a truck in the city of L.A.?

Dont say anything about gun laws, they are covered by the second amendment.

Guntoter, I keep hoping some day the people of this country will wake up and realize the U.S. Govt. has far exceeded the limits on its authority. But since they aren't being taught the truth in school these days, I don't know if that will ever happen. Every kid can tell you how to play Halo or MW, but try to get anyone under the age of 35 to give you a simple civics overview. They know who Kim "that ain't curvy that is one fat ###" Kardashian is currently banging, but don't know that the buffoon who's title is VP is one heartbeat away from running this place./Rant

We covered this in one of these threads awhile back. Some states treat high-mounts like carhaulers as far as overhang goes, and others treat them as specialized flatbeds, which is how they should be treated based on the way the laws are written that define automobile transports, at least on the STAA routes. Maybe one of these other guys will remember where that was in here, I'm not up to searching for it right now. But our conclusion was that the manufacturers screwed the pooch by not having the laws ironed out through lobbying before they sold every Tom, Dick, and Harry a high-mount. Your best bet is to sit down with a DOT guy in the states you want to run, and see what they say. Most of those guys are thankful to have something interesting to dig up instead of doing the same boring stuff with the average idiot freighthauler. But find out before you drop a wad of cash on a different truck.
