I don't trust big truck Tires enough.
I have seen complete carnage they can cause.
Not to say I have never gone 85 across a few states but I get real uneasy hearing those tires whine out.

Ok, so everyone has their own reasons for going fast..what are the justifications for speeding thru work zones? I'm not talking about a few mph over the posted work zone, but 15-20 mph over.

There are no justifications, but some people are worse than others.

Ironically the majority of the ones I see speeding and driving reckless through work zones are those drivers who work for companies with castrated, governed trucks with quallcomm and elogs, You know those companies which are SO SAFE and GREAT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. I guess their drivers figure they have to make up for lost time and wages somehow.

2 summers ago I was driving through a work zone on the 80/90 toll road, can't remember if it was Indiana or Ohio. I was not going at below the posted speed limit to begin with but I happened to look in my mirrors and see the shadow of a big truck nearly touching my own truck's shadow, the only thing out could make out in my mirrors was his mirrors occasionally. When asked over the CB if he had some reason for tailgating or if he was going out of his way to cause a wreck, His reply was something along the lines of "F@#K YOU, YOU F*&^EN ##### DRIVING SLOW AS S$#T IN A WORK ZONE, GET THAT ##*&EN THING MOVING OR GET OUT OF MY F&*CKEN WAY!!!

I Apologized that driving 60 in a 55 Work zone was too slow for him, and promised him that the second the barrels cleared, I would no longer hinder him and he could drive as fast as he wanted and endanger all the lives he saw fit. That seemed to infuriate him even more :)biggrin_25522:which was my intent, I tend to be a passive-agressive little ####### when you attack me unjustly:biggrin_25522:) , as he proceeded to insult me, my company, my truck, my momma, etc, and us "old fat truckers" who don't know how to drive with just about every homosexual slur and curse word known to man. When the work zone ended I bumped my cruise up to 63, as i knew he was governed at about 66.

He continued mouthing off about wanting to get a good look at the stupid sonofabich that screwed him over and doesn't know how to drive...but he shut up real quick and backed away when he saw my camera pointed at him. I proceeded to bump my cruise up to 68 and as he dropped farther back, I said "thought you were in such a big hurry?" I don't need to names names, but this punk foul-mouth KID was driving an ugly Maroon KW based out of Black River Falls, WI.

If he got that fired up in a work zone I'd hate to see how he handles a situation that's actually stressful... And I'm willing to bet that's not the first or last time his mouth, attitude, etc, has gotten him into trouble. I've even seen a few posts on here about that same outfit with a young driver that has a road rage problem, wondering if its the same one?

I could have turned him in, emailed the video to his safety director, but I decided not to. I guess I was not much better for escalating the situation, I just wanted to teach him a lesson. Hopefully he either straightened out or got off the road.

ummm, your not going to do 715 miles in the western states. not in the allowable time.

east cost yeah, but not west coast.

it takes me 11 hours to drive 590 miles from salt lake to albuquerque. the truck i was driving before took 12 1/2 hours. couldn't climb the hills as fast.

I was thinking more along the lines of I-80 in Nebraska, Kansas, ND/SD, OK, TX, and the flats in AZ/NM. With a speed limit of 70 or 75 what I brought up before is definitely possible. But you're right about the mountain passes.

It also aint gonna happen in CA, WA, OR, but there are still some cowboys who will log it and get a big $$$ ticket...

    Yes,creative logging for sure.
Also my truck will go almost 1300 miles per fuel up.It was ordered with big tanks.
So,i only have to fuel one time on the way back to the yard and after any scales.
Running to FL from NC has very little hills. The ones it does have i can top at 70 to 75 no problem.
You can run 80 all day long on 95 and 75 in FL. The four wheelers will still be passing you.

You'll never get all the safety Nazis and people stuck in slow trucks to believe it though. They want us all to have to suffer with them in the granny lane.
