In my experience, that rarely happens.

What, so you don't think there's a 80 mph speed limit? I take it you never drove in Texas or Utah. I-15 just north of St George Utah had a 80mph speed limit last time I drove through there. Certain spots on I-10 through Texas also have had a 80mph speed limit. Idaho had one as well. I have previously stated in a different thread that states do experiment with 80mph speed limits. I just listed a few of the ones that have.
Also, I don't appreciate trolling. Consider yourself warned. I will report you next time. -
I don't see the big deal about being scared of tire failure doing 80 mph.
My truck gets all virgin rubber and i have not had one tire failure in the last 2 years.
Keep the air pressure right.Check them with a gauge not a tire thumper.
Heck, years ago we ran triple digit trucks on bias ply tires. -
I have a different experience. At least twice a week I have a truck that is pressed for time. Sometimes being 10min late will mean you don't get the load off that day. That usually screws you for the next day. So if I drive 55 instead of 65 I can easily lose a $1400 load. No way the fuel saved at 55mph covers that. (change the speed limits to whatever you wish for the example, it still applies)
Running OTR maybe not as much but local it definitely makes a difference. Some places only give you a 45min window to make a loading appt. Miss it and you might not get a new time for 4-5 hrs easy. Busy places have their schedule fill up sometimes days in advance. If the limit is 80 I'll take full advantage of it. If your not pressed for time please stay right.
