I do the speed limit. Utah has 80 mph speed limits in some places. I am happy to do 75 as I have no need to do 80.

It's all about gearing and RPMs/power band. At 80, my truck is in its prime rpm range for my top gear. Yea, I see even better mileage one gear down at like 65 or so, but not at 70 in top gear. I average about 5.9 mpg at 70, with a W900, 75k tanker loads average, and I always idle for my 10. That's not bad at all for the circumstances. Oh, and the engine is a C15 with 575HP.

In his original question he stated if fuel was CHEAP. Also by your logic what can go wrong at 30 MPH can become a catastrophe at 55MPH.

If the speed limits 80 i would run 80. Not saying i would run it alll day long but i can get there and a lot more and would run it. In my truck it likes between 65 and 70 for best mpg, thats the way its geared and that where i like to run.

Yeah... until some dude in a smokey bear hat rains on their parade. 85 in a 65? That's gonna make a dent in your pocket once. A second time gives ya a vacation.

It all depends on the truck and what I'm hauling. No I wouldn't with hauling gasoline but a good fairly new truck with a solid load then yeah I'd run it.

With my last company towards the end of my employment with them I drove between 60 and 65 even though the trk did 75 because I did'nt trust his equipment.Did'nt bother one bit to stay behind a JBHUNT.I decided heck with this company, their loads ain't worth it,if im late im late I could care less.
