Not all blowouts are the same. I have blown a steer at +80 and had no issues getting off the road safely and upright.
80 MPH speed limit. Would you?

Maybe not but you don't know what your going to get for a type of blow out. I can personally attest to loosing a steer at speed and she headed for the dead tire no matter what I did. You have allot more energy to get rid of at 80 than you do at even 70.....
BUT ! I did haul garbage on a schedule in another life....and I had 2 sticks and a Cat...... and I'll tell you, there's nothing like pushing the tall stick forward and racking up 3 digits......
So yes! Guilty and I would do it again, for a moment, for fun...... but never again for a job...... nothing is that hot and they will be there tomorrow.
Fair enough? -
I run 85 MPH all day long (speed limit is 75 in AZ)... I have for years, the only issue EVER was Arizona DPS gave me a warning and said "your tires are rated for 75, keep it under 80"...
Everything on this side of the mountains is a thousand miles from nowhere. 65 MPH mega carrier trucks on U.S. 93 in Nevada are like moving targets for 110MPH supertruckers.
Picture this,
2:30 A.M. leaving Vegas heading north on 93 @ 110 MPH with a 2500 watt Pioneer in my 379 screaming at the top of my lungs singing along to The Killers or Social Distortion. Its easy to cover BIG miles. -
OH BTW, I saw a brand new Chinese steer tire on a truck a few days ago. Do you really want to save $200 on a set of steer tires? Buy the $500 tire and turn up the wick.

Rookies I do 80 now in the northeast running through the night 422 westbound to reading.when I was an o/o me and the reefer haulers use to hammer down on 95 through south Carolina actually had a state trooper down there coming up on us tell us don't worry as long as you aren't tailgating and weaving in and out or traffic I'm not going to bother you.as far as the one poster said driving fast makes you tired well driving some 60mph rolling roadblock makes me tired
NWMAXI Thanks this. -
Yup I can and would and have. As long as it is cool out and I know the truck
-
it really depends if im getting paid by the hr or by the ton, by the ton i have no problem doing 75, tho thats usually as far as I go and only if there is no traffic and I know the road im on, by the hour I usually sit 62-64 in the slow lane -
Yea, I get WAY more exhausted driving slowly. I can roll hard all day at 70+ and not be tired at all. Under that, I constantly gotta stop and walk around to wake up.
poppapump1332 Thanks this. -
I did 80 once in texas. and sometimes I do in Utah where I travel mostly. i'm fine with 75. although I might do 80 MT.
-
Yup, when all traffic is running 80+ in the passing lane you don't notice the trucks running with it, anyway the cops are waiting for the 4-wheeler doing 90-95.
