Hmmm... I wonder why it is then that the guys who blow by me at +5 over the speed limit are frequently discussing the situation with a state cop further down the road?
When I hauled heavy for Lane, absolutely not. Of course, I was turning 4.33 rears then, and this wasn't a five axle unit. With a five axle unit? Probably not. When I ran an ungoverned truck with 3.55s, I kept it around 68... comfortable for me, got me wherever I needed to be on time, kept the RPMs around 1450, didn't put a bunch of extra wear on the truck, still got me around the coolie trucks. I have hit 80+ on long, straight two-lanes for the purposes of getting around a slower vehicle, but I never made it a habit to run like that. Of course, I'd often find myself being passed by the exact same truck a few times each day. Don't know if running as fast as that would cause me to stop more often, but if it happened that much, then it would seem a bit redundant to me.
I run 5 to 10 over all the time and I haven't gotten a speeding ticket in years, the bears are out for that big ticket, not some 5 over crap, as long as your not acting like an idiot they won't bother you.. Y'all need to quit being so scared of the big scary lawman...
Who's "scared" of the lawman? I have a very strict safety department, and many carriers (via their insurance companies) are now calling three or more speeding tickets (even the 1 or 2mph nonsense used to pull an inspection) a history of speeding. Oh yeah, and you are now unemployable. Enjoy your status as scoff-law. I like my CSA score just the way it is.
Short answer=YES--but too many variables to go into here on how and why--Besides after 35+years I rarely find myself in a hurry anymore-LOL
I've noticed this quite often myself. My truck is governed to 67 and I'm usually doing 65. I'll take it up to 70-75 on long, straight downhills but wouldn't cruise at anything over 70, if I could.
Would I ? Hell yeah, I have out in west Texas, NM and Az. It's been a while since I've driven a large car but yes I have driven 80 and above. Of course circumstances come into play but if I felt safe I would hammer down. That's what the left lane was made for
My daily driver is a governed truck, but I have also driven ungoverned trucks. In my opinion, 65-70 mph is plenty fast. If things go wrong, I am confident that I can could keep my rig on the road and stop safely at that speed.
I have run faster than 80 on flat ground in the past when need be. But no more.I finally learned to slow down, not be so tense, enjoy the ride a little more, and make more money. I seldom drive over 64, even though my truck is set to 74. Like to set cruise at 62, stay out of trouble, and make more money. Watch my shift points closer. My fuel bill will be about 4 cents less a mile since I slowed down. Tire wear is less, as is the stress factor.Wear and tear on equipment adds up. Seems like I broke down more when I was speeding, and fewer worries about a costly high speed driving award. My insurance rates stay lower also. Now I stay out of those "BIG TRUCKS" way, and just let them fly by me. Driving a little slower works for me, but I am sure there are plenty of large cars out there that need to run 80. Problem is, give them an 80 MPH limit, and they will run 90. And that ain't too safe.
