80 MPH speed limit. Would you?

My Daily Ride is ungoverned and capable of running out upwards of 90 mph. only limited by running out of tach and or horsepower or both. Would I? like other have said perhaps "under what I felt were favorable conditions" such as excellent viability "read daytime", Dry roads, Cooler temperatures (not a 110 deg. day) "see gators out here daily" Lighter load "not running @ max. gross" and NOT ON CHINESE STEER TIRES!!! Last guy I knew who put a set of those on "locally" (Safford AZ) did not even make it to El Paso before one came apart.

That said I usually cruise @ around 70 mph. road and conditions permitting. As someone here once said and I quote "No load is so hot that it won't cool off sitting in a ditch"

 

well now for the confessions of a old guy I have run a truck at over 100mph, not a problem when I was young and reckless. With age And hopefully more wisdom, there is no need to run much over 65. lets face it when trucks were made of good old American steel, and not plastic and fiberglass, they could take a bit more punishment than the newer trucks can. At that time diesel was about 45 to 50 cents a gallon. Times change now there is more plastic and fiberglass than steel on trucks The new comfortable sleepers which are considerably higher than the older ones change the center of gravity a bit making them less stable. Give me an old Mack or KW with an old crawl through the window openning sleeper, I may say yes but these new trucks not a chance

 

80 is a just a lil' too much for a t/t, for me 65 mph is just fine. Get out there with enough time to make destination and there won't be no need to rush. Save on fuel, nerves, etc...

 

These sections that are at 80mph are pretty open with not allot of traffic, So I have no problem going 80 when the conditions permit. Also I-15 in Utah has sections that allow 80mph.

Agree with that. I am much more alert running fast than i am crawling along at 65.

And the saying the steady and slow truck gets there just as fast.....i call BS on that.
I come out of Naples FL on 75 north and pass the same trucks several times in a day.
They are slow and steady but i am delivering freight on the way.A pallet here a pallet there working my way north and keep passing them.

 

a better question would have been, if the speed limit is 80, how many of you have a truck tha can do 80??

not many i take from the responses. most posting here dont remember when the speed limit was 55 for the entire country.

but this does be another question, if these mega carrier trucks werent governed at 65 , how fast would they drive thru construction zones.???????

its rather laughable when someone says 80 on a wide open west texas freeway is dangerous, but seem to quite comfortable with mega carriers zipped thru construction zones at 62 when everyone else is at 45 or 50. then you have to pass thier ugly behind again whn ya get out the construction zones.

maybe they do that to get a second look at a fast truck, lol.

i seldom do it, but i can get a second look at any set of legs.
