looking at this pic closer I noticed that black module box is an old Kysor of Cadillac engine shutdown module. They were a crappy early engine emergency shutdown system for fully mechanical engine. They had wires going to temp sender in water manifold or thermostat housing and a sender on the oil pressure line at the block. On a Cummins a wire was connected to the fuel shut down solenoid. Not sure on a Cat. If engine overheated or lost oil psi it would activate idiot lights and/or buzzer and then shutdown fuel solenoid to kill engine to a avoid damage.
Needless to say caused lots of problems and wires were gladly cut to disable them for good. Lol!
