They had a 12v92 and a 16v92 as well. Werner used to have a road tractor with a 16V92TT (saw him once at the T/A in Lake Station IN) and the fellow driving it told me they also had a wrecker with a 12V92. He told me that both engines came out of riverboats. The 16V92 put out 1550 hp and well over 3000 ft-lbs on 42 psi manifold pressure according to the driver. Very impressive pice of machinery.

    Cabover Mike Thanks this.

I think they had a 435, we had a General with that, thing pulled like a frieghttrain, and they had a 475 also. A mechanic told me you could get an easy 900 HP from it.:biggrin_25525:

Not to mention false information..... the Series 60 may have had a few castings (maybe) made by JD but it was a detroit design from the get go...

Cummins and Case DID design the 5.9 engine together but it was designed as a truck engine with later models used in ag and construction applications.

The Cummins B Series is a family of straight-four and straight-6 diesel truck and industrial piston engines manufactured by Cummins. The B Series is known for displacing "one liter per cylinder" because of the popular 3.9 litres (238.0 cu in) straight-four and 5.9 litres (360.0 cu in) straight-six. A 3.3 litres (201.4 cu in) straight-four is also available. The B Series is widely used in many segments, including pickup trucks (the Dodge Ram), buses, military vehicles, construction equipment, and marine. Some of the construction and marine applications have actually featured two B series Cummins engines. The engine was originally designed by Cummins and Case Corporation for commercial truck applications, and appeared in a light-duty truck, the Dodge Ram, in 1989.

Old Detriot numbers simply told you what they were. 8v71 was 8cyl 71 cubic inches in each, it doesn't matter if you are talking about the 4-53 or the 8v92 or 12v71

    Cylinders and inches
