Looking at the pictures again, what appears to be holes in the top of the frame may be angle head bolts holding the cross members in place. If so, just replace any that may be missing. Put bolts in the holes on the side of the frame where the 5th wheel used to be.

If the truck runs OK, and don't need thousands of dollars of work, it is well worth 3k dollars.

    truckingman Thanks this.

Thanks guys for the input I will probably get the truck if everything checks out

Does the suspension look like it will pass DOT?

so DOT doesn't care if their are holes on the side of the frame as long as their are bolts in those holes?

Long as there are bolts, washers, and nuts in the holes you will be OK.

how could someone prove if the holes on the top of the frame are factory or not?

for the side holes do the bolts need to connect the two frame rails together or just each side has to have bolts in it?

What is done is done. Drain it and fill it with Delo 100 40 Weight from now on, if you want it to last as long as possible. You're probably gonna want to buy a couple cases of it.

15W40 is OK if the HTHS value is 3.70 cP or greater and ash max 1%. In winter you must use 15W40 or your engine won't live very long.

so use Delo 100-40 in warm weather & 15W 40 in winter?

Does running 15W 40 in the warm months really destroy the motor?

"The single most cause of engine problems with these is the use of multi-grade engine oil. ie,15W40. These engines were designed to operate on straight weight engine oil ONLY30W or 40W as this engine has cast iron full round pistons the running clearances are tight .002 to .003 piston to liner clearance. Plus the inverted scraper type oil rings(4) have a high tension abutment ring which causes a "slicing action" to the oil. Multi grade oil cannot stand up to this type of abusive use."

The above info was obtained from expertdiesel.com. If you buy it, change the oil to straight 40w. Have the engine checked by a good DD 2 stroke mechanic, just my .02.
