Here is the 5 mpg example you gave compared to the thread subject of 9 mpg comparison for you to ponder on...

    2,500 miles per week
    5 mpg = 500 gallons of diesel @ $4/gal = $2,000
    9 mpg = 278 gallons of diesel @ $4/gal = $1,112

The difference is $888 in less fuel used every week that by itself makes a decent wage and I am not saying it all comes from changing driving habits, but everything from mechanical to aerodynamics to conservative driving habits all adds up to a nice bonus every week.

The increased profit per mile due to lower operating cost allows to be an even better negotiator to have more patience to get higher rates in the negotiation process of booking loads.

Dice, you can't reason will supertruckers,I have tried too many times. Lets just cut that to $500 a week savings and we see that it's $26,000 a year. But hey,he's big doggin in the left lane.makes sense to me.

Sometimes people wonder how I only work 7-8 months a year. Not wasting $500 plus a week on fuel helps. So does doing most of the repairs on my truck. I'll put that $110 an hr in my pocket everytime.

why do you find it so hard to believe i dont worry bout fuel mileage,i check it so i know if my motor is ok,i also dont shop around for price.if i need fuel i fill up.there is money to be made in trucking and if you dont spend enough you pay more in taxes.yes im in left lane been that way for 36 years,i have slowed down a bit but like to stretch it out sometimes.like i said trucking for me was never about money, but you wouldn't understand that.

I don't enjoy going fast. It is more relaxing to me to go slower and have more time to react and brake. :)
In our current truck we get 7.6mpg. We sometimes have skirted or blue sled Landstar trailers, sometimes nothing. It seems like the skirted ones run better for me.
I wonder what the actual mileage is for the MVT fleet is.

I've heard from they're drivers fleet avg for mvt is almost consistantly high 8-9 mpg. I run slower when times allow but most of the time i've got tight tight deadlines.
