I hope I don't, either, but I'm glad you finally found someone who'd give you work.

What was the name of the business your family owned? I'm in the Garden Grove area - I know Schorr is in Placentia.

runawayload - I just realized that California Career School is the place in Anaheim. I called them a few weeks ago but they didn't offer any weekend classes or else I would've went with them. They seem pretty legit and they're close by.

On the Maneuver skills... the school's goal is to get you to pass the test. Therefor you should do any maneuver the same way every time. This includes speed, angles, timing. One of the hardest things for a truck driver to control out here, is yourself. Most accidents or screw-ups will eventually lead back to the driver. Not paying attention, being in too much of a hurry, being to lazy to GOAL, or being over confident. These habits will only cause problems. Learn the basics first and then your trainer will help you with the variations that we see everyday on the job. Trust me, your trainer will not be pleased if you get in his or her truck and they need to start back at the basics. It is very difficult to find a secure, spacious and properly marked place to spend a couple hours reteaching you what you should already know. When you get soooo good that you are bored with it... then do it 20 more times perfectly. Please, take full advantage of this time to become the best and safest student your school has ever seen! Good Luck!

They have an 8 hour a day for 6 week course or a 4 hour a night for 12 week course. They also have other locations like Oceanside and Twentynine Palms.

That's all good and well, but get into the habit of getting out of the cab and looking what's behind you and where you want to back into. Someday that may save someone else's truck or trailer.

i am a CDL student practicing in the yard, the instructors keep pounding it into my thick head: there is the "real world" and there is the DMV, when you are a professional driver like the CR England video guy in the youtube link provided above you will G.O.A.L. as many stinking times as you think you need just like he did in the vid and you will not suffer any penalty because this is proper set up procedure and safe behavior

however my instructors tell me for the Cali DMV alley docking skills test you can only G.O.A.L. two (2) times, if you get out more than twice you lose points/fail(?) which of course makes no sense but i am guessing it is probably just a way to limit the amount of time applicants take to complete their skills test so the DMV can squeeze in more testers and collect more fees each day

If you are good at acquiring a skill, then once is all you need to do to assess the situation and make a plan. The alley backup test is easy, practice and practice some more to get it. Do it statically, meaning do not change anything when you are practicing for the road test. BUT the real world is different, I don't know about that video, I have had to do a lot of backing up and every situation, even those that are at the same location are different.
