How did you like Stevens? I don't think JBH is hiring grads but then a lot of them arent. Any suggestions? I should be out of school and have taken my exam mid to late April.

Stevens, I have mixed reviews. As a place to get training, they are top notch. If I owned a trucking company, and someone from Stevens Transport handed me an application to drive one of my trucks, he'd be put at the top of my list. Their training program is like boot camp. This was ten years ago, there were about 30 people in our orientation class, and half of them were gone before the first week. After we were sent out with trainers for the 60 days and came back for the second week of orientation, there were less than ten of us left. You are then paired up with another rookie to drive team for 30 days, then come back in for more classes, then they give you a solo truck. Things go downhill from there. The pay is crap, you spend hours on the phone every payday asking where in the hell the other half of your paycheck went. It was awful. But put in a year there, and you'll be ready for anything. Another thing I didn't care for was you will spend a lot of time in the back of the trailer lifting and sorting boxes. They will reimburse you if you decide to hire a lumper to do it for you, or you can take the money you would have given the lumper, pocket it and do it yourself. There are a lot of places they go to though, where there aren't any lumpers and they expect you to do it.

JB Hunt doesn't hire students, despite what everyone says or thinks. And no, I wouldn't recommend JB Hunt for anyone either. Here at Jb Hunt, you are left pretty much alone, you are just a number. I've never met my dispatcher or even know what he looks like. If you call in for help, most likely you aren't going to get any. I do well here because I know the system, I know where all the customers are and don't need my hand held. I see a lot of new drivers come here and leave a month later in anger and disgust because they couldn't make any money. The dispatch office is filled with college kids, you can't depend on them, and you can't wait around for them to make a decision. If you depend on them, you will go broke. The pay is decent, I make $.44 a mile.

At any rate, I wouldn't be shy of going to Stevens, just don't expect to stay there and make a career there. It's a place to put in your first year and move on.

    luvtheroad Thanks this.
