SWAAN, my statement needs a bit of clarification I guess. 1) 12.7 blocks ARE NOT RATED to handle 1850 ft. lbs of torque. Only the 14 liter block can handle it. A stock ECM has a "safety feature" to NOT allow such a programming mistake. The bottom line is a 12.7 will not last if you can find a way around the Detroit programming to upload a 1850 ft. lb. torque rating. 2) Remember these are ELECTRONIC CONTROLLED engines using an ECM that is programmed from Detroit (regardless of who does it, ie: a Detroit or Freightliner shop). Detroit is the ONLY place you can get a program to be used in the ECM. You cannot take a blank ECM & put whatever you want into it as a program. EVERY DDEC ECM has to have all the programming from Detroit. The programming in a given DDEC ECM is based completely on the ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER. Things such a the fuel mapping & injector timing information is in the program. As well as all the other parameters, some of which can be changed depending on which DDEC engine you have. 3) A higher HP setting does NOT always mean a higher rating. Example: my 1999 Pete is a DDECIV engine. My ECM is currently set @ 500/1650. However, it can also be set as low as 370-430/1450. Or 430/1550, 430/1650, 430-470/1650, 470/1650 & 430-500/1650. You can have a higher HP tune programmed in but not a higher torque rating above 1650, as I stated above. You can also have a lot of ECM tweaking done as well.Sometimes it works & sometimes it doesn't. My ECM has a engine serial number from a Fitzgerald glider truck in it currently (local Detroit shop's idea) to see if we can resolve a few fuel economy & engine performance issues since I had the injectors replaced a few weeks ago. We shall see what happens over the next few weeks. I hope this post makes things a little clearer...

A Detroit dealer may not be able to program above but does not mean a Detroit dealer needs to program. Lots of companies offer aftermarket tuning. I had my ecm at Detroit to get the ins/outs swapped to match my truck an told them not to flash based on my esn. When I picked it up the tech said I see why you said that. And handed me the print out of my exam and all its settings uncluding the 600/1850 tune.

has anyone put a ddec2 engine in where a ddec4 was and used computer harness and intake from ddec4 engine. If so will this work without any further mods or does computer have to programmed due to 16 tooth reluctor wheel?

Diesel control services does this sorta thing and yes it's no problem. I'd suggest phoning Fernando and find out what's involved to get a correct answer.

    Hello everybody!

I'm new on here, just joined 5 minutes, my friend said this is the place to go for information. I have a 2011 Volvo 780 with the ISX Cummins 15. Two weeks ago I started hearing a tapping noise, I took it to my mechanic and he pulled the top of the engine off. He called me and said my camshaft and rocker arms are beating again each other. I already had ran my racks on it. He said I had to replace my camshaft, intake rockers, exhaust rockers, Jake box rockers, 2 rocker shafts. Plus labor, I'm looking at $13,000. I found a Detroit 14 liter with low mileage for $5,500. My friend told me to take out the Cummins put in this Detroit and change the turbo to the Borg Warner and by the aftermarket exhaust manifold. He also told me to send the ecm and get it tuned and I'll be satisfied. Any suggestions from you guys?

You don’t have post in multiple threads...... eventually someone will respond. Maybe the mods can hook you up into one thread.
