Hey guys. Was recommended to RoadRunner from someone I went to school with over 3 years ago. I heard some great things from them as far as pay etc.

I have a few statements followed by some serious questions. So lets jump right to it, shall we?

First off, let me start out by saying I will be purchasing a truck directly from a dealer. Monthly payments with 72 months financing probably through a credit union or bank. My monthly payments are looking to be about 2500-2900 monthly. Today I recently spoke to someone at RR about this and pulling reefer... I asked as to what is the gig there and some information regarding Owner Operators. He first asked if I was approved the truck. I said, at the present moment I am searching my options before I jump into something like that and trying to present this on a spreadsheet for my expenses and the such. He said, well we do leasing etc. You could lease a truck for 600-650 a week or a volvo for 735 a week from us or Quality Companies.

My first take on this in my mind was.

So, I would be paying anywhere from 80-150k on a low spec'ed truck first of all. With no epic specifications. Probably a 10 speed, maybe a 13 with 450-520hp, possibly a automatic with cloth seats and the basic of crap from a brand I do not particularly like. No thanks! While leasing directly from them or a third party being Quality Companies... I would rather not do that all while having weekly payments. God knows the truck will not be eye candy, but then I have no idea as to what any of the warranty is on that stuff they are offering in their "lease."

For me it is simply Armed Robbery with a deadly weapon to say the least when I can buy a truck from a dealer that meets what I want, for a monthly payment, full warranty coverage, truck options that cost in the 168-182k range.

    Here are my actual questions.

What is the actual Average length of haul pulling reefer?
Average amount of sitting with this company?
    What about 34hour resets? ^^^^
Are their certain truck specifications that these folks want? I ask this because I will have a wheel base around 280-290 with a truck weight of around 19800 or so. Stretched pete to say the least.
How does the FSC (Fuel Surcharge) Work? They told me it would be 100% Fuel Surcharge. So what is the 100% based off of? Are they going to put every drop of fuel in my truck for each and every load? I am only use to seeing the FSC vary each or every other week from .17cents per mile to .28 CPM depending on average cost of fuel in the country.
Where do they want you to fuel at (Truck Stops)
What type of fuel card do they use?
How are you paid and how often? Weekly settlements, Two weeks? Upon Delivery of load?
Do they Cover Lumper fees? Are you Reimbursed? ( I know places with $450 Lumper Fees) :'(
What exactly will the company pay for me to lease my new truck on with them? They said 70% of each load?
Where are your running lanes? I live in Greensboro, NC area, told the guy I would like to be here or out in the midwest I needed to get away from the east coast. :)

Things I was told thus far:

I was told I would be paid 70% of the load.
$10 a week for qualcom use (ELD) 20miles short of the house. Fun right?
Trailers are free of charge to use / Company pays fuel for the reefer
    100% FSC Fuel Surcharge
Insurance or insurance discount. They didn't get into too much detail
Plates or what ever is covered by them or I pay? I forgot which.
No NORTH EAST!!!! I said awesome! No NYC for me.... I can do every where around NYC, but NYC or long island. Honestly, I prefer to stay out of that particular area including NJ and Boston. To much time gets eaten away along with the fuel prices/food prices/truck parking. He said if I wanted to run the NE they have a company in Main, but you gotta pay for the trailer and fuel for the reefer. I said, nah I think I will pass! Long story short, I don't mind running west of Allentown, PA

In short, they told me with leasing my truck on with them I would be looking at $250 weekly in fees. 1k total for the month. Not bad at all it seems, just not sure all of what it includes for my truck.

Sorry for the long post, but hopefully I can get some information from you guys. In depth detail is welcome as well.

    ghostridah Thanks this.

What is DEC? How much is the gross weight of your landstar, I know they're heavy from other drivers. Can find it on the driver side of door jam if you don't remember.

We get 100% fsc, detention and stop pay. The fsc is based on the doe fuel average. The company just made a major change so I'm not 100% sure what changes what contract they will expect you to sign. I'm grandfathered into my contract. Not sure if we are sharing loads with the other companies. Your truck should be fine weight Wise. I have a Volvo 730. A&A runs us west from the Midwest. Not sure how Roadrunner will run you. If I missed some questions please ask again

Well, I submitted full app to RR about their temp control. I asked some more questions once i got a call. Truck specs do not matter as far as length or anything as I will be in the 290 wheel base range. Also, dealer will provide a free DOT inspection upon me leaving their place so that will be covered and they do take dealership DOT inspections, so with that said. No money out of pocket there. Guy also told me for qualcom/plates and all that jazz 260 weekly after everything. Seems like a pretty good deal. That's 3,940 a month before fuel expenses. 10k miles a month for fuel will run around 4k. Now how much is the current FSC?

The fsc on this load is $628.83. that's for about 2,400 miles. From Lena, Wi. To South Gate, Ca and two more stops in Tulare, Ca.
