My 379 is doing the same thing. Yet, I replaced the expansion valve last summer and it all worked great. Guess I am going to replace it again today. I did "tap" it for grins. No change in cooling performance.

Question when you did the work or a maybe at a shop...
What was your process?
Did you vacuum the entire system?
Replace the dryer?
Replace the orifice at firewall?
Any thing else???
Thanks!!! -
Well, I replaced the compressor, dryer, orifice tube(orange), expansion valve, flushed the condenser, both evaporators, lines, etc. I then vacuumed the system and allowed it to sit overnight w/vacuum attached but not running to ensured a good seal. After charging the system everything worked great all summer. Oh, well. It is what it is.

I swapped out expansion valve & orifice tube. There was zero change in performance. I did find a few pieces of black plastic gradings & trace amount of sludge on the old orifice tube. I did have good readings on gauges w/out any restriction type fluctuations. 55/160 @ 900 rpms.

So the rear expansion valve all of a sudden started working.?.?
I am wondering or just my theory. There is that small wire that comes off the expansion valve and goes down and wraps around the return line. It was close to the supply line. If was touching both lines makes me think the expansion valve was not sure if it should be open or closed creating a false reading...??
