I'm sure there are answers to my questions on here but I haven't been on here long. I just received my CDL, not through a school and wondering some places that would hire me based on that. I am married and have kids as well. Thank you in advance for the advice

You're way ahead of the game by having you CDL already. These companies like that because it shows initiative. You can get right down to business with these companies training while the other students are still trying to get a CDL permit.

Hi Walters, once again, me and Chinatown are at odds here. He is a believer in OTR (all those examples he gave are OTR) and I've always been a local guy (home almost every night). The choice is yours. Both have advantages and disadvantages. You may run into trouble with big companies without any experience. Some may require you to do a course to in operation, to satisfy the insurance regs. If you have a home life, PLEASE, stay local. You'll miss a lot of family life with OTR, although, modern media helps, (but you can't hug a phone) I'd suggest, food service delivery, beverage, or trash hauling, or freight pickup and delivery. Those fields are wide open for new drivers, if you can physically take it. Van trailer hauling is pretty straight forward, but anything else, reefer, dump, or tanker, may need prior experience. Good luck.

How did you get your CDL?Many of the carriers for new cdl holders require schooling because its their policy and/or their insurance requires it.So whoever you decide on I would talk to the recruiter first before filling out an application.

Your probably going to have to spend about $1000 and take a 10 day refresher course & gain a certificate. DON'T lease on with ANY of the major companies.

I would prefer being local since I have a family but not totally opposed to some regional that have me out a couple of days at a time.
I got my cdl by taking the written portion then a family friend loaned me a truck/trailer.

Can your family/friend recommend some places for you to go and apply?
