Well here's what I miss since going local:

Daycabs are uncomfortable compaired to a sleeper

Even if you don't have to sleep it's nice to have the option to sack out on a long day or when stuck at a dock

Commuting adds to your day, I turned down a "local" job that involved 4 hours of driving to & from the dispatch terminal on top of a 14 hour day. No thank you.

It was nice to, on occasion, just drive home with the truck instead of going up to the terminal and driving back home. I lived 30 minutes from the yard and on some long days it was nice to just go home and finish the next day instead of going to the yard at 11 at night.

Also, I saved a lot of gas by having my car sit.

It's nice to point to federal regs and say "I gotta sleep for the next 8 hours" noisy neighbors, lawn mowers, and rambunctious children aren't as understanding as to why you need to sleep until 1pm.
