AS the poster of this video on youtube I thank all who are viewing it and thank you for all the positive comments. I have recently sent letters out to newspapers from Vancouver to Halifax, I have been contacted so far by the Winnipeg Free Press, they are looking for a Winnipeg area driver to speak to about this issue. If anyone is interested in speaking out please contact me at [email protected] and I will send you his contact info. It is likely that other cities will pick up on this also, so anyone from across the country that is willing to speak out let me know and I will contact you. thanks again/ew

So what is the good reason some power point presentation with some lame country song:biggrin_25522:

Sorry five minutes on a computer doesn't change this from anything other than:biggrin_2553:.

I will not ask for nor support hourly pay only, and I will not intercede between an individual driver and his dealing with anyone he chooses to.

Minimum wage is $7.25 an hour x 70 hours a week ( the amount you can legally work)= 616.25(figuring overtime after 40). This will become your base pay. That is 1540 miles at $.40 per mile with no additional pay(stop, detention, layover, haz-mat, border crossing) easily doable in 2 1/2 days.

Oh I know you think no way will minimum wage be paid right? Really you say that with SWIFT advertising $.25 and a line around the block CRST with teams at $.29 and how many on this board thankful to be working there?

Drivers will get whatever they demand by refusing to work for less. However if anyone is willing to labor for less you must change your requirements,or your profession:biggrin_25514:

Those are the facts and all the letter campaigns, rolling road blocks, insipid calls for brotherhood can not change it:biggrin_25525:

I never will understand why so many people think they need someone to hold their hand to do the right thing.

In a way I see your point...

Target induvisual companies who refuse to pay drivers a living wage, who refuse to pay drivers for down time, weekends away from home, food money ect ect..

Target, by refusing to work for, companies with hostile idle rules, companies who charge drivers mileage to get home ect ect...

I see your point...it's just to bad drivers aren't united enough to do that...

Instead their more worried about Dems vs Rep crap that gets shoved down their throats all day on the radio dial...

What are the basic requirements, both knowledge and skill, required to earn a license?

CDL computerized testing (general knowledge, air brakes, combination vehicle), CDL permit, state police testing (pre-trip, air brake, yard maneuvers, road test), license fee, Endorsements (HAZMAT, Tanker, Doubles/Triples, Passenger), TWIC Card, FBI background checks, fingerprinting, DAC, CSA2010 - and the list goes on.

Yet this job is considered unskilled labor? All that money, testing, time and preparation for what?

What has driving become? The most glorified minimum wage job? I'm embarrassed to admit what most drivers earn when asked.

Of course you see an influx of Mexican and foreign trucks and truckers; who would work for these wages, or rather, who can sustain a life, a family, on these wages.

"Oh, but unionization was the down fall to the American working class". The most ridiculous statement ever...

If your happy being the modern day slave and living in poverty, thats your choice; but don't ##### about it. If you have that "quit whining, that's the way things are" mentality, then stop ######## and get back into your truck; you have miles to cover and weeks to be away from home. If you don't want to better your life, your families life and continue to be raped and used by the corporate america, then continue to do nothing.

Truckers have been looked down upon as imbeciles and simpletons, and many do nothing to change that image.

    Corporations...

What people need to understand is the almighty dollar truely is God on this planet. There isn't even countries as we are all taught. There is no America, no Saudi Arabia, no Japan....

Do you know what the "countries are"? Not the USA: it's Exxon, Microsoft, Philip Morris, that's the United States; not Saudi Arabia: it's oil, and diamonds; not Japan: it's Honda, Toyota and the automotive industry.

It's not the people who make up the country only the trillion dollar corporations...

But, I don't have to tell you things are bad - you know things are bad.

    Wonderful insight...

Countries are more and more taking on the face of the corporations who more and more are able to influence governments, laws, regulations...

All at a time when workers rights are dwindling...pay falling, benefits being cut, unions demonized (gee I wonder who sponsors such rhetoric?)

    But yet Unions, are bad?

Why, cause they would rather you earn $17.00 an hour instead of Walmarts $7.50??

Looks like we're headed back to these days...

Work from dusk to dawn, no benefits, minimum wage...
No negotiating with your employer, no representation...

They did it once, they will do it again...

    Oh well...enjoy your Subway sandwich...

I represent me why would I possibly need you too? So you can leach some money out of my compensation?

I won't work for less than I want. I will not work anywhere I do not want.

I ask no one to stand by or for me as I will do my own standing, and speaking.

Ayou have the choice of dealing with every one of those corporations you vili

You alone, standing against billion dollar corporations, are an ant...and won't be listened to...get real please...

And what clout do you have as an induvisual against a board member who owns one of these??

Do you really think the owner of this jet cares what you have to say...he has 1000 people ready to replace you...and so does the next company...

Wake up dude...this 'induvisual' stuff only works in the mythological land of talk radio...in real life you will get crushed, and see your wages and benefits reduced to 3rd world status....

Pretend all you want, but without 1000's of people united, you, me, and everyone else, are like insects, to a giant, to simply be stepped on and squashed out...

They nor you can make me work for anything I do not want to. Sure they can set their pay scale below what I require, same as Wally world, McD's, (insert evildoer corporation here).

But they will not get my services for that. Now I may choose to do something else(in fact I do now in addition. I guess since my guy's do not drive around in as nice of a vehicle as ai do I qualify as evil to most likely) and so can anyone else. I work with the people I do by my choice and no one else's.

I have no need to stand up to a corporation and make them listen. I just do not do business with them. This false fear of they control you is borderline paranoia. Sort of like your obsession with talk radio. I will let you in on a secret though I see no appreciable difference in any side of those insipid debate. They are both anti-individual and pro-mob. One says to serve your fellow man(like you do), the other says serve a mythical paternal entity. I say live instead because either of those choices are the same as choosing death.

An individual with a sound rational mind is infinitely more valuable and resourceful than some second hander mob. THAT IS THE SECRET TO KNOWING I only deal with those I choose.
