I see the tailgating thing all the time. Too many drivers with the attitude of my truck will run ( you fill it in) and everyone needs to get out of my way. If you can't run as fast as me I'll get on your butt till you move. Total disregard of the what if.

This will never change, only get worse.

All of these Super Drivers out there....Trucker and 4 wheel...Insist that they CAN Control and Stop Their Vehicle ...With the space and time that they allow...Yet when they crash....They insist....That that they...Just didn't have the time /distance to stop/avoid the crash...

You can't have it both ways..... If you can stop and avoid the crash and did not....You had to have intentionally crashed...If you could not...You did not have control of your vehicle!...

Just to add to Zantrix, newbies, if you run with your CB on this is like having the ability to see into the future. Not that the guy should have been tailgating but if he had his radio on he would have known traffic was at a standstill up ahead and could have had the sense to back off a bit. I cannot tell you how many times having the CB on has helped. At the very least you would know there is a very bad accident up ahead and you can take the time to reroute yourself to get around the whole mess.

Newbies, keep your radio's on! It may save your life!

It really doesnt take having CB on. It takes paying attention to everything around u. Its called defensive driving, being a professional. Havent turned my CB on but maybe a minute or 2 when needed in the past 5-10 years and never had an accident. Take care drivers and be safe out there.

The law in Ontario, Canada says only hands-free devices while driving. You may talk on the phone, but you better have bluetooth through speakers or a headset. You aren't allowed to hold ANYTHING (ok maybe coffee, don't know there) while you are driving in Ontario.

I think the fine is a whopping .. $150 ... Something like that. If they really wanted to enforce it, put the same dollar amount the USA has. $2750 for the driver I believe. Plus $11,000 to company.

It sure does take paying attention! However, personally I use every tool available to me to ensure my safe driving record. I have had countless times where having my CB on has let me know what is going on down the road and to slow down ahead of time going around that curve or over that hill. Also is good to know the weather conditions ahead of you. Roads conditions can change at every other mile marker and if its bad where you are heading having a good report on the radio can help you make the decision to pull it over ahead of time. With that being said you take what you hear with a grain of salt and determine yourself what you believe to be accurate.

If you are heading east toward Baton Rouge on 10 where it turns to 12 there is section of road in which you come around a curve and they have been doing construction in that area. Traffic is sometimes stopped and backed up to that curve at night and if you have the CB on you will know what to expect coming around that curve. With that being said, defensive driving is a must and paying attention is a must, paired with using caution coming around the curve and to expect the unexpected! Like I said, the radio is a great tool for knowing ahead of time what's awaiting you around that curve.

Head's up anyways guys/gals! That area is currently under heavy road construction and it changes from day to day! At night is when it really gets going and there are lane closures. Just because you don't see bulldozers doesn't mean you should go barreling through there! Always heed the signs and posted speed limits and prepare yourself for the unexpected...

Was watching the news a couple weeks ago and turns out the Mayor of Toronto got caught reading and driving (pictures to prove it) and it made the news. Police said there is nothing we can do as there is no law that prevents a person from driving while reading.

There are new distracted driving laws in the works apart from the current Handheld communication device laws. These will essentially leave it to the officers discretion whether or not you were distracted while operating your vehicle. Then even coffee will get you a ticket if they are behind quota.

Why is a cop allowed to play on the computer and drive at the same time? Their answer, and this is first hand from a cop to my ear, "we are properly trained to operate a vehicle and use the computer or the phone at the same time". I subsequently told him I was trained as well, to which he replied I wasn't. I laughed and asked him if he wanted take my work truck out for a spin someday ... he declined and you guys all know #### well why. Then he made a big mistake on the ticket he gave me and never sent any "evidence" to the courthouse. :)

It has nothing to do with safety, its a money thing.
