It's very simple. How much current is that radio supposed to draw? If the current that the radio needs to draw is less than the limit of the outlet, there is no problem. It's the same voltage. Some people talk about having problems with electrical noise, and they do have filters for that, but many people have no problems with the noise. Certainly a linear amplifier would need to have a higher current source. I'm not too familiar with how your radio has been worked on and what it draws, so it might need high current relative to most radios. But many radios do just fine with the cigarette lighter. It's like when audiophiles set up their stereos. There is a minimum gauge wire that you have to use based on power and length of the wire run. But after a certain point, it becomes nothing but a negligible benefit and a bragging right. Audiophilies are like that. And the wire manufacturers don't mind the $$$.

Also remember to that all the truck manufactures are tryin to save money to and some of that is in wire harness...Even a bone stock cobra 19 would be routed direct to the battery(with applicable fuseable link) for me cause im not waken up to a smokin radio that caused a fire just cause of a company who cheaped out on wire quality..A few extra bucks and a lil time and your gonna be safer in the long run..Same goes for coax,if you run factory stuff its gonna hurt the radio cause most times its crap as well, has a duplexer which hurts performance, shorts and so on..

then gee that leaves running it straight to the battery doesn't it . sorry I don't agree with mark 100 percent of the time....I know for a fact my radio and amp are matched correctly....if you read one of the other posts on here you will see the power a 955 General lee etc. all can be run off a cigarette lighter plug . those are low wattage radios and only require the 13.8 to run do what your gonna do.... I'm over it....

when you run power your in a whole different world most people know nothing about... that 955 is pulling drawing 13.8 volts can be run right off a cigarette lighter plug and does not need 6gauge wire running barefoot....get real

it used to be easy to run a 497 right off the fuse panel in a century or Columbia and you got better performance off the radio....I would not even bother running it off the fuse panel of a crapcadia .
