Don't let this one experience with a lousy mentor cloud your view of Swift. For every bad one there are two good ones.
What yours didn't realize was that he stands to make even more money if you would have finished with him. He gets something like a penny per mile that you do solo for a certain amount of time plus whatever he makes with the next student. All he made with you was pay for the few miles you drove. He definitely needs an attitude adjustment, but it is better he gets it another way than you beating the tar out of him. -
swiftbumpymon, although all your reasons for going home are valid,be prepared for it to happen again and again. It's not right I know but that's how trucking is.You just quitting is not a good way to the start of your carreer.Unless you have solid proof this mentor should'nt be training, that company won't do anything. They'll just listen to you and that's as far as it goes.Next time this happens just stay on the trk till you get back to the terminal and they'll give you another mentor or call your company immediately and they may put you up in a hotel and send another mentor to you.You don't think this is the only bad mentor at Swift do you?

I know there're plenty. A girl was at the terminal on my first day because her mentor made her sleep on the top bunk while truck was in motion. I don't expect Swift to do anything or even talk to me. I called the people I was advised to call in this situation and they were already gone for the weekend. I emailed both driver services reps and I'm thru with it. It's not a good way to start off my trucking career but its other avenues to this trucking industry. OTR company driving is not the only one. I appreciate all the comments.

i guess what i was getting at was you would be better off getting a new mentor rather than quitting. dont base your view of a company off of one persons bs there are other mentors that are not in it for the money. And as for sleeping on the top bunk its not a DOT rule that is a swift rule i always told my students it was up to them but if swift asked it never happened. and they always chose to stay on the top bunk.

I would have no problem being on the top bunk. I was on it while I was in school. But honestly, Swift is a great company and I do believe I can be successful with them or anything I do. My mentor just showed me to do things myself. I have another job offer on the table where I'll be making more money, home every night and weekend. My mentor just had other issues going on. I declined the job offer to team drive with him. I declined the cash advance advice. I declined to talk about the N word. I didnt appreciate the I dress like a rapper comment. But he was shocked to find out I had a college degree. Told him you can't judge a book by its cover.
