It is crazy. You nailed it when you said she had 5 or 6 seconds to stop. That was an eternity. I honestly don't think the driver should do jail time for this one. I think a heavy citation is necessary, but jail time is extreme. I watched the video so many times, and that truck was so deep in that turn before brake light on the car came on. I agree with you, had she been going to 45 speed limit as opposed to 65, we are having a different conversation. I hate how Ike is on the video creating that narrative and being so one-sided.

Right, and if she was paying attention, she could have made the maneuver to take the should and get around him. Then the driver was on the shoulder, she didn't move or slow down! That to me is another showing of her not paying attention to the road.

Air bags in the wife's Beemer deployed at 35 mph, air bag in my nieces car deployed at 20.
I have been part of enough investigations to know even those trained to won't state speed just by looking at the damage. They will wait till they run thier simulation, have a look at the computer before they try and state anything for fact. This will be especially true when impacting something like this with a trailer that sits as high or higher then the hood and is taken on a corner.

When the wife asked how many I fired over bad u turns there was a reason, this type accident is not new to me.

I found that some of the smartest people I've ever met didn't have a lick of common sense. A high IQ doesn't guarantee a safe truck driver, May even be the opposite in many cases.

Absolutely. Our teacher timed each one of us as we completed a left-hand turn from a traffic light. The average was 17 seconds. It took me 16 seconds. This truck was already fully perpendicular to the highway.

Let me ask you a question, because you seem to be refusing to acknowledge some facts.

1- Was she going 20 mph over the speed limit or not? The GPS says she was. Are you going to argue with that? And let's not deal in hypotheticals. Let's use the information we are given until proven otherwise.

2- Were the current road conditions optimal for the speed she was going? Yes or No?

3- Did she have at least 5 seconds to react or not?

And then there's my roommate who learned how to drive but ultimately decided that they didn't want to deal with it, so they never upgraded to their actual license and instead decided to cycle around everywhere... guy still has more common sense than some of the folks I've seen driving truck recently

Ike's one of us professionals. Guy started driving truck in 2002, and started doing the whole YouTube thing in 2010 on top of that. Everyone's gotta have a hobby, especially out here on the road... you'll go insane if you don't

The new drivers bring jumping in front of faster moving trucks with them from their bad 4-wheel driving days.
