I am new to the trucking world and i was wondering about power. i would like to know what would be the best radio for stepping out without any amplification, as i have heard most companies will not let you have an amp hooked up. SSB and AM is not needed if i can get the power without them. all help is always appreciated.

    LEGALY ..... :biggrin_25513:

You are allowed 4 watts AM and SSB ( sometimes measured in PEP at 12 watts or more ) and 40 channels ... That's it ....... The reason the companies will not allow amps is the FCC can fine THEM for you having the amp.

    REAL WORLD ..... :biggrin_2556:

If you want to run a bit more power get a so called " EXPORT " or 10 meter radio but keep in mind even though you might have 200 ch you can only use the 40 CB ones and STAY below 28.000 MHZ. If you do no one really cares ....

Just for starters. All CB radios in the USA will be either AM, SSB or Both. Most are AM and many are AM & SSB. I don't think that you find anymore SSB only like the Stoner. And some are AM/FM with or without SSB. Now if you want a LOUD radio get a Export like WA$GCH said. The General Lee is known to be a very loud 50 watt AM/FM radio with no SSB. Sparky's sells them cheap.
