Right on, Ed. I just know from the people I interacted with, that when we had a OTR recruiter come in, they wouldnt even act interested. Their minds were already made up that they wanted local and that was it.

I understand where youre coming from with the family. I have a wife and young daughter myself. Maybe the experiences I already have of being away from them for extended periods of time has conditioned me (and them) to not fear being out for 6 weeks at a time.

Sysco will work you till 9 o'clock at night. But you'll make over 80 to start. Within18 months you'll be well over 100. But you'll earn every cent of it and driving that truck in philly will chew you up. You need to have your CDLfor a minimum of 1 year for the south philly location

Us foods has 2 plants here- Bridgeton and swedesboro. The swedesboro plant has the better driver contract and does mostly their bulk stops. Bridgeport does mostly restaurants. Pay is similar but work is a little tougher out of Bridgeport.

Both companies have an excellent pension, 401k and benefits

Sysco is a nice place in many locations. They will unload you provided you are on time. If you went to say Pokomoke City Maryland on the eastern shore and arrived in the night darkness long before your morning appointment time, they will leave you alone to sleep out your 10 hours then call you back once you wake up and shake off the webs out of your system. Then unload you and send you on your way minus a few dollars. I think I paid 100 dollars to them for that, but the level of service, no hassle sleep and so on inside their bullpen away from the public access was outstanding.

Little rock sysco on University Ave? Forget it I don't wish to get sliced today.

I am reminded of Sysco in Horseheads NY. Nice place. Used to deliver spices up there in 5000 little boxes out of McCormick Spices of Baltimore and loaded out of Beaver Dam which is *Thinks really hard... roughly Hunt Valley, There is a blue mountain stone quarry there at the beaver dam more or less. Used to be a powerful mall there from the 80's a temple to a lifestyle long dead not far from there.

Getting to Horseheads Elmira is real easy in them old days, straight up 15 as fast as you can go. Do be slow and nice to Marysville PA who don't want to even see you.

Wait, have you ever been to a flying J-or a wawa for that matter? Lol. Flying J is a travel center, with truck parking . Wawa is a convenience store. They're totally different.

Hell yeah i've been to a flying j. The new 'super' wawa's theyre building are quite large and offer diesel now, with larger parking areas for big rigs. The one thats right up the road from me constantly has 18-wheeler traffic coming in and out.

"Traffic" is a lot different than parking. You can park at a flying J. Not at any wawa. Trust me, I'll be at 11 of them tomorrow. Lol
