That is one of the bad things about this job. There is so many other people that can control us,just because they feel like it.

I like the idea Scottie but ah.... you can't wear ear plugs, phones etc while driving, you can be ticketed.

Good stuff on the truck noise too. Would like to find a DB meter and see what's in the truck.....

Wearing ear plugs while driving has got to be one of the wierdest thing i have heard of. How do you listen for certain noises that should or should not be present. Being able to hear while driving is one of the most important thing for knowing whats going on with the truck and around you. Blocking out those noises is just foolish IMO.

You gotta love Concentre.(I don't mind nameing names when its the truth) They will do the same with a sleep study. I know a driver that they wouldn't pass because of his body mass index. He went home and went to the top sleep lab in the state, did a two night sleep study and passed with flying colors. The clinic doctor didn't want to take the word of the sleep clinic because it wasn't the clinic he had recommended. When the driver and the company safety director said that they where going to file a complaint with the state medical board the doctor relented. The company no longer uses Concentra.

Not quite right. Ear plugs and or hearing protection can be mandated by OSHA if the average amount of noise per hour exceeded a certan amount. I believe somewhere around 85db. That is just a bit louder than a normal speaking voice. Remember your ipod ear buds are not a OSHA approved noise reducing device.

My current truck is much quieter than my last one but has just replaced loud exhaust with loud super singles. One of the first things I'm doing if I buy my own truck is ripping out the interior and plastering every surface with dynomat.

There we go... in CA at least. I expect other states have similar legislation too. Regardless though, I would still wear them. I do take them out if I am being stopped, so it would be virtually impossible to know that I was wearing them.

Dynamat and aerogel insulation and you'd have a very comfortable and quiet truck.
