LOL yep, I had no idea. Now that I'm solo, I have just 7 days worth of clothes but brought other stuff like a vertical fan that stands at the foot of the bed, 50' of rope, some tie down straps, 3 pound sledge hammer, a few wrenches, razor knife, screwdriver, flashlights, batteries and charger, small box fan that sits next to my head so I get a good cross breeze, CB of course, rain gear, jacket and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting now. I had a $25 hammock from that Bass place that I had rigged under the trailer for sleeping until I figured out how to idle the truck longer than 5 minutes thanks to members here on the forum. I had the 12 volt soup pot but it kept blowing fuses so I got rid of it. I'd now like to get a small propane grill so I can cook up a steak and potato once in a while or at least some hotdogs and hamburgers or something.

Speaking of the 'bed' I also recommend grabbing the twin egg carton looking foam mattress thing from Walmart, it's only $6. If nothing else it provides a clean barrier/layer between you-your sleeping bag and the remnants of the previous students who lived up there before you.

Wow... There seriously isn't a better school close by that meet your standards?

I'm in Los Angeles so I have the luxury of being picky about my schools and I chose a driving school 30 miles away to drive with 1 on 1 training at my own schedule. I got the permit before I went to the school because I got the handbook and all that stuff, saves time and money, you can find that book online as a pdf file for any state. If you can't read E-books you can always print it out on regular paper. Once you have your permit just the driving is left.

My driving school charges per half hour, or about $100 per hour. After about $1300 (including other stuff as well) and 2 weeks of driving I'll likely be ready for my DMV test.

I guess you never encountered any rivalry between branches. Sure we all put our necks on the line. I have deployed twice. Navy and marines used to compete. I was a ground pounder. My dads side was all swab jobs. Even my dad and me would heckle each other. When I was stationed at ft irwin we would go looking for the marines. Would go to yerma rail head and go into their club. Dance with their women. Then what do you think would happen? We didn't set around buying each other beers. We went there for a reason.

I can't believe that you were a marine and never encountered anyone other than the enemy. Not even your counter parts the navy. I have always seen different branches give each other a hard time. Peace time is a lot different then when at war in a hot zone. Peace time we would get bored and look for some entertainment. I have a lot of friends that are marines. I call them jar heads or GIrenes. They call me names as well. We always called air force guys bus drivers. That is what they look like in uniform. We still have a lot of respect for one another. Just how we are.

You make it sound like all the branches go out around the campfire singing songs together....:biggrin_2556:

If you think it's all the same ask what the air force eats in the field? Ask what the marines eat. Then ask the fly boys what they sleep on then ask a marine. :biggrin_2556: Were not all the same...
