Picked up some MT CANS from Denver today...Truck in front of me was an old FL classic....One behind me was old Pete.....Both didn't have the RFID transponder or the "Clean Trucks" decal either....I wonder how they're gonna get into the ports?.......

Well here goes CARB again. Make a law , spend a bunch of money then when people get pissed or figure out it stupid, figure out ways not to enforce it. Now there is a six month extention for carriers who show good faith in putting on a filter or buying a new truck. What exactly is good faith?

As I sat waiting for my rig to get washed....About an hour....I counted over 30 some-odd rigs that were definitely too old to run in Cali...Running on CA-60...Some were again...Hauling "Cans"....

So how does an 80's Shaker COE get into the ports again?....

    Thanks CARB....

    Thanks for nothing.....

Well....I just learned a little bit more.....

Yesterday while getting my rig serviced....My shop had a '97 "Binder" in for a Retrofit....

So all CARB "requires" is a DPF.....Well...Well...Back in '09 while I still had my '97 379...CARB told me that a DPF wasn't good enough to pass muster....They told me I could drop in a brand new engine....Of course doing that would also require plenty of other upgrades....And after I talked to my shop...We agreed the cost to do all that would be almost the price of a new rig...

And also...I considered getting a Glider from Fitzgerald....But again...CARB said that to pass the '14 CARB requirements...."ALL ENGINES MUST HAVE AN EGR SYSTEM"...

Now does anyone know when CARB changed that?

I think if all one has to do is just upgrade with a DPF to be compliant instead of having those POS EGR's (Which by design....Are designed to fail...) Some Gov't entity owes those of us who initially required to purchase an EGR rig some compensation...Like about $25K per O/O.....

Does anyone here have the PDI upgrades on their rig?....Can't remember if I asked that before...
If you do...Is there a manual switch to flip it back to factory settings just in case the CARB Nazis pull you over?

I think most of the problem is that the people at CARB who simply write a new rule whenever the mood strikes, do not know the lingo or jargon, they certainly do not understand the technology. I spoke with a CARB officer on their hotline last year and after several questions, I realized that the guy who was being paid by the taxpayers of California to tell truck owners how to become compliant did NOT KNOW the difference between an 07-10 DPF only engine and a 2011 DEF engine. When I asked how they plan on enforcing the EGR regulations (requiring all trucks to have EGR and DPF installed) when many 1990's trucks do not have EGR but do have electronic engines. He said "if you have a truck that has an electronic engine you can install the same technology that a BRAND NEW 2014 truck has on it"! When I asked him why new trucks have a Diesel Exhaust Fluid tank on them he said "because that is what filters the exhaust"... He thought the DEF tank was the DPF canister.

How can we know what they want us to do when they do not even know what they want us to do? Its a moving target.

Bottom line, if you wait long enough and run old equipment, maybe 2011 trucks will start getting cheaper and easier to find. You can buy one just in time for them to change the rules to require you to have a flux capacitor powered truck.

Not only that.....Originally...Mary Nichols (CARB chief....I won't post a pict of her..Since for many here...It's breakfast time....) Stated she wanted the DPF tied into the ECM and when the DPF was clogging....That instead of de-rating the engine (Like it does now)....She wanted a "Shut-down"....
Now imagine how many times a regen fails and you see trucks with their 4-ways blowing out smoke from the stacks because they have to pull over and do a manual regen...Now imagine those same rigs just suddenly stopping on the ribbon if Nichols had her way.....

They say "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions"....Well...CARB must have a contract with the Devil....They sure as hell are competing with Las Vegas Paving in that department....
