Most of us enjoy the countryside scenery. But about 90% of our job has us in the the big cities going to other big cities with dense suburban cityscapes. I'll bet I'm not the only driver that was warned to be prepared to deal with all of the lonely hours to find that actually there are NOT ENOUGH lonely hours. It's being surrounded by clueless and reckless cars/suv drivers worshiping their smartphone with one elbow on the center console or laying against the side window who often look through their own windshield several times per day.
I'd rather haul toxic acid up a mountainside in a snowstorm that go through Atlanta on a sunny day. -

My first career I spent 30 years running my own company from behind a desk. I loved it, but was always bored. Started driving at age 55 and even though I make a fraction of what I made before, I love it. Now I'm buying my own truck and trailer with my own authority so I can slow down and see more of the sites where and when I want to go, not where some dispatcher who doesn't know my name tells me to go. Trucking is an an extended retirement for me that keeps me from sitting around the house all day and getting older faster. It keeps me active.

I was toting my pack along the long dusty Winnemucca road
When along came a semi with a high canvas covered load
If your goin' to Winnemucca, Mack with me you can ride
And so I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand
And I said, "Listen! I've traveled every road in this here land!"the1simp Thanks this. -
Yeah you see the country, but not always able to stop. I drove thru Nashville about 100 times before I was able to stop and spenda day there Went to Opryland I remember and Tootsies ! After 25 times across I-40 thru N.M. you don't really want to do it any more.
