Meant vehicles in general, but to answer that question they took 250k out of a guys trailer and it was a new tractor, so maybe.

There needs to be some "common sense" amendment to the law. I do my best to follow so when elogs come it won't be much of a big deal. I see the issues arising with short haul loads where the driver may run out of time at a receiver. It is impractical to tell the receiver you will hold the load hostage in fear of running out of legal time at his shop. So you waste more time and likely lose a customer. If an allowance was made for short hops to a truck stop or odd circumstances as such I would have less issue with it. The idea it records your 5 mile drive as a violation and as now you have to restart a 10 hour break is stupid.

Those that say they have never been forced to drive tired must be truck stop queens. You can't tell me every 10 hour break you have you are well rested and ready for another 14 hour shift. Sometimes you don't sleep well for whatever reason. I guess you can just call your dispatch and have him tell the customer you need a later appointment. Do you do this if you are scheduled for a Friday delivery and you know the customer will not receive until Monday? Maybe its a holiday weekend. My money is on you drive it anyway. Safe? Not likely. Legal? Box says yes!

Just another sick example of the ever looser definition of "progress".

Problem is FMCSA tried that with PC driving, and it's become one of the most abused ways of logging. While I do agree that writing in a 'buffer' would be a good thing for those times crap happens, what will happen is it will get abused, and we will be where we are today.

My companies log department can fix these some how when we run outa time and gotta run to a "safe haven" if the customer has no onsite parking but gets really pissy if its over a 15 minute run or if you do it all the time. 1-2 times a month they dont wine at us much but if its 1-2 a week or pushing 30-45 minutes they will have issues with ya. Not sure how they do it or how they justify it they just fix it and we have to approve it.

That's exactly my argument with elds. You can't control the mind and body and tell it when it when to sleep and when to drive. The human is not a machine. Plain and simple as that.

I cheat. I don't really care. But apparently it's a big deal to all you box lovers. And that's your perogative becuase it's all you know.

If i'm tired, i'm sleeping. If i'm awake, i'm driving. That's all there is too it. I've never slept for more then 5 hours. When it's time to sleep. And when i need a nap, it's usually 15 minutes to maybe 2 hours. Depending on how tired i am. My body goes in spurts, and those spurts don't match the machine. Or the law. I don't drive for 11 hours and i don't sleep for 10.

You box lover also cheat. As was stated in above post. cuz technically all time at any commercial property is logged ON DUTY. That regulation has been posted on this forum numerous times.

#1 rule of driving. NO FATIGUED driving. That supercedes any gooberment regulation. But if i've slept. And now i'm wide awake. I'm certainly not going to sit there waiting till it's time to drive. Cuz i'll be ready for bed again.

A lot of you like to talk about trip planning and being parked somewhere that has parking. NONE of you can forsee the future to plan your trip. Cuz anything that can, will screw up your perfectly planned trip. I see trucks parked in the middle of nowhere, on an off ramp all teh time. Because the box won't let them go to some safe haven. For whatever reason that may have happened during their 11 hour driving time.

TO ALL YOU BOX LOVERS OUT THERE. WHO LOVE THE RULES. kiss me where the sun don't shine. :)

lol, I think the point was that the eld does nothing to prevent anyone from ignoring the most important rule in the HOS (just ask the infamous Walmart driver who was fatigued yet otherwise legal) and could lead to some feeling pressured to break that rule.

I know, you've never exceeded the speed limit, never shifted on the RR tracks, never failed to do a complete and thorough inspection of your equipment etc.

Just wondering if you would run an elog if it wasnt tied to the odometer/speed sensor of the truck or tied to a GPS satellite?

All these problems and issues are because of current HOS rules NOT the Elog. The focus is on the wrong issue.
