I dont consider sitting behind home depot for 4 days "Training" - 1st trainer gone. Thanksgiving back with my family - 2nd trainer gone (he was my favorite). Vacation for a week(Trainer went on vacation.)- 3rd trainer gone. 276 hours reached (240 was the requirement) - 4th trainer done. Dude, "catered to" is NOT ME. What part of letting the trainee use the qualcom dont you get? Is that really fair? Then you say "You are a quest, and you would do well to remember that" - REALLY? Well, when you have a "Guest" in your truck do you eat thier food while they are driving? Do you try to make them skip a shower to save 15 minutes? Do you call them "fat ###", and "Hero"? Do you drive your own truck off the road onto the shoulder to try to scare them? While I understand that there are trainees who are NOT trucker material, I can assure you sir that I am not one of them. Maybe you would be better off asking some questions about what happened before you assume to know stuff you dont? For all you trainees out there, dont take no #### off a mentor - the first time they pull ####, tell them what you think about it and that they can drop you off at a terminal any time if they are not going to treat you with respect and teach you PROPERLY how to operate a commercial vehicle. TRAINEES ARE NOT TOYS SIR, THATS MY POINT. WHATS YOURS? THAT YOUR A GREAT TRAINER AND I DONT KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT? I'M AFRAID YOU MAY BE WRONG ON BOTH COUNTS, YOUR CERTAINLY WRONG ON THE SECOND.
I also agree with you that if I had a guy like this on my truck, he would have been kicked off. ANY company I have trained for or seen trainers drive for, have always said that the student DOES NOT have the qualcomm in the front with them while they are driving. 1. Have you ever kept a student in your truck parked behind home depot for 4 days while you were home on the couch? 2.Who said anything about using a qualcomm WHILE DRIVING? 3.If you think, because you call yourself a "trainer", you can dictate when a student should and should not shower - SITTING IN A TRUCK STOP, then you sir are the one who has another thing comming. See, I got my year done now. I drove max loads in the worst months over every major mountain range in the country, SOLO. Have a nice day.
@ALOT TO LEARN, God bless you. This is one of craziest story I have ever heard. I'm new to this site. I believe that he was so focus on not making any mistakes that he made so many. As a trainer, u have to be patient and I see you were. These companies dont do personality checks just license. I really enjoyed the story. :0)... GOD SPEED
@eckz GREAT POST. I APPRECIATE IT.AS FOR ME, I GET NERVOUS IN TAKING A "TEST". WHEN I'M BEHIND THE WHEEL ON MY OWN U WOULD'VE KNOWN I JUST STARTED DRIVING A TRUCK.
TRAIN(ER): to develop or form the habits, thoughts, or behavior of (a child or other person) by instruction. to make proficient by instruction and practice, as in some art, profession, or work: STUDENT: a person formally engaged in learning
That depends more on the trainer than the company. Trainers that want students for a log book will treat the scenario like a team, and expect you to know everything from day one. Good trainers will ride shotgun at first, and technically when you're training this is the only legal way to train as the trainer needs to be on line 4 while training.
1) No 2) As a student, you need to take the initiative. If you want to learn the qualcomm, then speak up. A quiet mouth doesn't get fed. 3) If I'm parked at a truck stop for more than a hour, why would you have the need to ask me if you can take a shower? If I'm going to be there for a while, grab your stuff and take a shower. I'm not your mother.
OK now I see you guys are just as nervous about who you are going to get put in your truck as we are about who's truck we will be put into. LOL Thank you all for your patience and teaching......
