Yes the Fleetstar was the bigger brother to the Loadstar. Both good work trucks! You earned your iron butt path driving those @Spartanmetal .....![]()

I started in a Loadstar straight truck in ‘77. Company had 2, one had a 16’ box, the other 18’. I was driving both of them when we realized that 1 was registered under 18000 lbs, the other over 18000 lbs...that was when I got my class 3 license...after a nice policeman advised me I was driving out of class

We did have a 1971 load star 5 ton, with a gas engine and a split rear end. If you weren’t careful the differential would lock up between gears and you had to get out and give it a whack with your tie down bar.
The only problem was that the parking brake consisted of a clamp that clamped around the drive shaft, so if your diff was stuck between gears you had no way to stop truck from rolling away.
Those were the days.cke, Manipal92, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
I lost my hydraulic brakes one day and actually returned about 20 miles to the warehouse using only that brake handle!cke Thanks this.

I think it's older than '80's. The round dash came out in '77 and I think it's a late 70's. What kind of trans is that? 6 speed with a hi/low split?

Not sure....
I stumbled across that while poking around on youtube. -
There was a guy in Wisconsin, pulled a milk tanker for Gullickson Transport out of Deerfield, Wis. ( near Madison) I used to see him everyday on the freeway. I think the guy had the same route for like 30 years.
Meet Leon ‘Butch’ Mueller and his 1971 Pete 358Tug Toy, booley, Short Fuse EOD and 2 others Thank this. -
Well, somebody mentioned a 220 Cummins in a thread on a nice old Autocar somebody bought, which led me first to the H-Series Ford, then to the N-Series Ford, and then to this...
