Just asked him. He said the ones he knows why on orientation were because of failed drug tests (3 of them). As to the ones who quit or got fired: 1 quit because he figured out he wasn't cut out for OTR driving, 1 quit because he refused to drive in NY, 1 was fired for an accident while on the side of the road (left trailer in the roadway), and 1 was fired for flipping his truck and totaling it. Those are the ones he knows the reasons why. I know some of those weren't new drivers but not sure how many.
A week to decide Boyd or TMC?

At Melton we had to lift 3 different size tarps up to our chest. We also had to show we could use the bumper to climb on/off trailer. Real world I'm not climbing on the trailer, I have a ladder strapped to my chain rack.
-
Also with you being in Ohio, you will be able to get home easily. The majority of loads my bf has picked up up North have been in Ohio. Plus they have a hub in Cinncinati.
-
You've gotta lift a 100 lb tarp on to the deck which is chest high.

Hey thanks for the info I really appreciate it I want the extra training TMC provides just hard to live on 400 a week for 2 & 1/2 months but figure it will pay off in the end. I know you said they are going all 9 speed what do they have now? I only trained on 10 & 9 ? Any chance you know what they average? Thanks just want to make right choice learn my job and do it well and safely. Also cpm or %? How do I know I'm not getting screwed on%? Thanks again
-
It does pay off in the end...And considering the 1st 2 weeks you wont make tmc a penny, 400 is quite generous pay. They give you a room, lunch and training.
They have all 13's now. A 13 is a 9 with an extra splitter. Once you flip the range selector up on a 13 each gear has 2 positions. Same shift pattern as a 9 though. The first night you will be int he simulator learning how to shift a 13 and the first driving will just be back roads going from 5-55 and back down to 5 so you get practice with the 13.

You will check the math both ways for every load with your trainer. There are a few that would be better on CPM, but most are way better on %. On % pay you will average .45-.48/mile. % is way better and if you ever question that, just do the math to see. The only reason they have CPM is because they bought out another company that paid drivers cpm. % is harder to compare to other companies, but will end up much better. Also a 300 mile run is really 315-350 miles, so you don't get paid for every mile you drive on CPM.
Average pay per week? Well I thought it was a bad week If I didn't make 1k. The worst lazy drivers make 650. Average is prob around 850/week. If you work hard you can easily clear 900 regularly. Being that you live in a good area, you should do well.rookieMikeOhio Thanks this. -
Found this ..thought you may wanna look into it http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/tmc/109727-why-i-quit-tmc-long.html
Things may have changed recently though. -
I just posted on your thread at the very end. I know it was 2 years ago, but some things have changed. Also it seems your FM didnt have your back. I called mine a few times a week to build that relationship.
-
you mean the FM didn`t have "carterbeauford" 's back .yes maybe ..btw it wasn`t my thread ..i only came across it and thought it may help the op in making his decision...but that thread is luckily to be just a one isolated case.

Please start your own thread. This one has nothing to do with oil field or oil field wages or opertoonities for cali drivers.
