1 year on the trainer's truck?. Sounds like you were brought on as a team driver. If teaming isn't for you, and hard to know until you try it, be upfront and let the company know now. Give them a chance to find a better solution rather than let things fester until they blow up one day and you wind up parting ways in the middle of nowhere trying to find your way home.
Unless the trainer is doing something to put your safety at risk (watching videos, texting etc while driving) I would just let it slide. Let her hang herself.

I'm reminded of the saying, "Those that mind, don't matter, those that matter, don't mind."
So, if she is really a friend, she won't mind you getting a different trainer, if she does take offense, she ain't a friend and you might be better to cut her loose anyway.
I was with my trainer for I think 5 weeks. He had a scheduled week off (which I was off also) during our time together. So, we trained for 4 weeks. Anyway, it wasn't ideal and the first week getting used to him really sucked. Howeverl after that first week of adjustment and knowing it was only temporary, I lightened up some and things got better. Once I was able to see past the crap that annoyed me, I was able to see what a good guy he truely was and I've met very few who had such a big and gold heart. He was just a rough, crud, old Mexican dude. I live in a place that's probably about 80% Mexican and my Mother-In-Law's maiden name is Garcia. So, I know that culture.
Anyway, after that first week, the rest was really good. I learned alot and oh my God did we laugh alot.
In the end, the time with my trainer was a cherished time and I will always be grateful. He gave me a very good start on my adventures in trucking. But, it certainly didn't start that way.
If she is not working out for you as a trainer, and from your post, it sounds like it isn't, I'd strongly consider trying to get a different trainer if at all possible. I also agree with others, in that only divulge what you must and keep as much private as you can. It sounds like she doesn't train all the time and therefore, probably won't be taking on another trainee. So, you won't be passing the buck on her problems as a trainer onto the next trainee.
My opinion, based on what she shared. Good Luck to you. BTW, once I went solo, it REALLY sucked at first. It wasn't until about my 3rd month solo that I stopped stressing so much. But, I DID stop stressing so much. I'm in my 13th month now and, although it is not perfect, I'm rather enjoying it all. Also, I'm a retired Federal Civil Servant filling in the years between civil service retirement and actual retirement. I walked when I finished my 30 years, but still had about 9 years till I could completely retire. I took alittle over a year off and then started this endeavor. Right now I have about 6 & 1/2 years left. At this point looks like I'll be truck driving for the duration. My plan B and plan C ideas kinda went out the window of practicality when Covid hit and changed things.bigguns, bryan21384 and Blueeyes Searching Thank this. -
I am even buying some of her meals...bigguns, truckdriver31 and LoSt_AgAiN Thank this. -
EVERYONE, THANK YOU!!!!!!!
the thing is.. she is using me as an excuse to not drive her shifts after I've driven mine. Saying she has to stay with up me... NO SHE DOESN'T!!! I am driving just fine. I made it through Dallas and Salt Lake City on my own.... she was on phone with husband fighting whole time...
Yes I am nervous in the Mountains going into Oregon and Washington but I am learning.I am originally from flat land...lol I would wake her if I was having issues.
She also never leaves the truck unless I make her...... she only uses a bucket!! And I have a low immune system. She knew this way before I got on her truck. I am getting better but its from almost dying a few years ago. Its taken awhile to bounce back. But I am way healthier than I was... I just don't understand why she won't use a restroom even during day. It is gross and makes the truck smell horrible. I've thrown up because its so bad and she won't throw it in the trash right away.
I have had some serious safety concerns with her as well... including video chatting her husband while driving. And almost hitting another truck.
I know these first few weeks are supposed to be the hardest but the other trainees for company had stories about good experiences.
I guess because we knew each other before we did this she feels she doesn't have to watch what she does. Her verbal abuse and lies she tells people when she thinks I am not listening is too much.
I gave up everything for this dream.... I wont lose it for anyone! I just needed to hear it from others their thoughts.
BUT IF I ASK FOR DIFFERENT TRAINER OR TURN HER IN... WILL THEY TELL HER I DID IT?? AND WHAT I SAID????Landincoldfire, Dave_in_AZ and bigguns Thank this. -
So how long is the “required” training period? Nobody said you have to team with her once that period is over.
bigguns and Sirscrapntruckalot Thank this. -
Tell her in no uncertain terms that the video calling has to stop or you will be asking the company to take you off the truck for safety concerns, then follow through on that if she continues.
The hygiene stuff well, only you know your tolerance. You are probably unlikely to change her habits, so either put up with it or get off the truck. I had one trainer with a hygiene issue, it was disgusting but I knew it was only temporary and if I asked for a new trainer that would only prolong me getting my own truck...and there no guarantee the new trainer wouldn't be as nasty or worse.bigguns Thanks this. -
