I really liked the cup of coffee as that is a real meeting & how it all started. Thanks for the super honest feedback. CONGRATS on 18 MONTHS!!!! HUGE!!! Oh, just a day at a time and as I see it (my opinion only) I need the program more today then when I came in as the disease is still tracking a day at a time. In fact the newer people sometimes have more energy & keep it going.
That is possible as things that seem impossible are possible with a Higher Power as I got a call out of no where this week. I will keep you in my prayers for that local route (I can do that as I am not praying for myself) or something even better for you. Thanks a bunch!!!!!!
AA while on the road????

MarineNewRookie, sent you a PM, not sure if you can access it, though.
Glad you started this thread, I have never been able to make it work on the road, but maybe you can. Maybe it will help me, too!
If you can't read my PM, I guess the Admins can make an exception, my email addy is in the PM.
Good luck, and God Bless!MarineNewRookie Thanks this. -
:smt023 Tracy:: No I can not respond to the PM but thanks a BUNCH for what you said as that is what has me concerned. Have too much to lose on this & still praying and talking to my friends in the program but none of them OTR & that is why the feedback from everyone here has been OUTSTANDING. What a Great Bunch of people. GOD BLESS and Keep Trudging the Road of Happy Destiny. Great message. Thanks, Fred

Just spoke to my dad who has known Bill W for 35+ years and is very involved with AA at the state level. He said they get calls all the time from truckers looking for meetings and do everything they can to accomodate the drivers. So, always call, local members will be glad to help.
MarineNewRookie Thanks this. -
:smt023SEVENMPH (That is a good handle/callsign): Never thought of that and forgot as I know if Central Office called me to help make a meeting for someone I would be there myself or if that was impossible for some reason, I know a dozen people that would be there as that is real AA and powerful. Tell your Dad thanks & Hope that all is well!!

I found putting half the effort into finding a meeting and staying sober as I used to finding a bottle and staying drunk worked for me.
MarineNewRookie Thanks this. -
Congratulations on the 538 days (just one of my quirks. It helps me to remember one day at a time if I count in days instead of years or months. I also believe if it is one day at a time whoever got up first this morning has the most sobriety, maybe a conspiracy by the East coast people against us West coasters
)
I knew a gentleman who spent 28 years in and out before he left us. He never did get a full year in. The closest he came was one year his birthday was on a Friday. His group gave out cakes on Wednesdays and were going to give it to him 2 days early. He was so excited he got to the church where the meetings were held 2 hours early and started pacing up and down on the sidewalk. After 90 minutes he couldn't take it anymore and crossed the street to the bar and got drunk. He 12th stepped and got hundreds of people sober but couldn't keep himself sober.
I owe people who have slips and come back a huge debt. They have done my suffering for me by proxy. After 11,718 days of sobriety my drunk and sober days are almost equal. Left to my own devices the hold this cunning, baffling, powerful disease has on my brain would tell me I have reached a break even point and it is OK to drink again. The newcomers and returnees tell me nothing has changed since I last drank, that the misery and insanity are still only a drink away. I hear their pain, remorse, and grief in their voices and see it in their faces and get the motivation to stay sober one more day.MarineNewRookie and Big Red Thank this. -

Think I need to shift my meetings around to where people are staying sober back to back to back if you know what I mean. There is a part of me even sober that wants to go live on the street in a box car, eat free meals (as we have lots of free places to eat & cot) and not have to work. Just sit at meetings and talk about it. Have a high turnover which is good to see and makes me feel almost doggone lucky to be left standing as people with superior programs to me have gone bye bye. Good that I am around the turnover, street people and try to help but some of them may not be lucky enough to die & are OK with that I guess (like the zombie movies which I was for a long time). Hope all is well Native Dancer & Take Care. God Bless

wow thanks Marine for this thread....I'm an older dog getting into a new career, but have about 18+ years, so this thread has helped me a lot.
God bless and keep truckin one day at a time!MarineNewRookie Thanks this. -
I'm a little late to the party, but I find that I drink much less driving OTR then when I'm local, but then again I don't really have a problem with turning it off if I need to. At home I drink several times a week, but on the road I'm always too busy to find time to stop and drink. Don't get me wrong, I've had my share of drinking on weekends when I'm laid over but for the most part I may go months without drinking while on the road and when I'm home I can become a big slush....sometimes drinking everyday for a couple weeks until my liver tells me it's time to take a break.
Anyway good luck and at least in today's world you can have internet and phone access pretty much nationwide 24/7 if you need to talk to somebody. I come from a family of heavy drinkers and drug users and even the ones that don't abuse stuff like that suffer from some sort of mental issues so I can sympathize with you. Again good luck.stabob and MarineNewRookie Thank this.
