First things first, I gotta get hazmat and doubles/triples.

I just wanna make sure the pay is good. Ocala is closer but if my girlfriend and I decide to get serious ill be moving to st Augustine with her. Where we would live is about 15 minutes from jax. I thought about working in Ocala then when I move I might be able to transfer to the jax terminal

Just be sure its something you wont regret. Ive been with my girl for a while now, and the only one I think about giving a ring too aka ending my life LOL. Im currently looking to relocate back to where I grew up where my family and friends are. Ive already spoke to the gf about it, and she is all for it to move in with me after shes done with nursing school.

Yeah this girl supports me in whatever decision I want. I also like that we both share the exact same outlook on life and family and how to raise our children when the time comes. I'm very serious about it and even if I get that job and don't like it much, I'm going to stick with it for the sake of starting a family and being home every night.

Do you think the line haul would pay better than P&D? They have both line haul and P&D positions open.

Do y'all think it's possible to make $1,000 net per week working for an LTL company? I'm talking net, not Gross.

Most cases you will not make 1,000 a week your first year, Im on my 2nd year and average 750-950 a week take home, in the metro area of NY. Thats also claiming Single 1. Most companies Line-haul you will make more than P/D. Some companies run linehaul 24/7 365 days a year. P/D has nicer hours mon-fri holidays off, and line-haul is typically at night. Most places you will need over 20 years to see a day run or even a turn run where you dont have to stay in a hotel a few nights a week. Now my terminal for whatever reason is the complete opposite. You can easily get a day run with little senority and a turn bid as well as all the old timers for whatever reason want the layovers(furthest run is 3 slots, the three guys who have 35+ years have it). But in NY, NJ, and new england the traffic is unbearable during the day(once took me 5 hours just to go 88 miles).

At the same time dont work for a job you cannot stand doing, otherwise youll just be miserable your whole life. I knew Id never want to go OTR and live in a truck so no matter what my circumstance was I would never do it. I however do enjoy line-haul and working at night. Its not my ideal career I want to do for the next 30 years but its good for now and a decent backup plan

Thanks, Yeah I wouldn't mind doing local stuff, I hated local at first when I worked at PFG but that was food service, taking home $500/week. If i could make a stable and consistent $700+ per week I would be greatly happy. I love working with my hands so i might even do dock work if possible.

It's hard to get that consistently on your first year. Mainly because you are the lowest guy on the seniority board. It also depends on how that company operates, if they let you work the dock when there is no run for you or not. Or how busy that area is. I worked for the lowest paying LTL company there is and I recently got one of my last checks, it was $925 take home. Although when I first started with them I was getting around $600 take home.

But after you get your own run $1000/week net is pretty common on any of the decent LTLs.

And if you are wondering about P&D vs Linehaul, linehaul will always be more money. And mostly on nights, only the old timers get day linehaul. But either way it's more money, and that's why it tends to be a bit harder to get into. Some companies when they hire people, it is for P&D and you have to wait to get into linehaul. Some people prefer P&D because of the day shift. You keep your friday nights to yourself. I think either one is good as long as it is a good company, simple as that.

Yeah in Jacksonville They have openings for driver trainee and local p&d. I'd like to do local, as its always home every night and weekends off. Plus if I move in with the girlfriend it'll be a 30 minutes ride to work versus over an hour drive from my house. I'm just trying to plan on my future as much as possible lol
