How is it not truck driving... because I was only out a week and home on weekends... what is the difference bettween being loaded at a shippers dropping that loaded trailer at a rail yard.. then picking up a loaded trailer at the rail yard and deliver it to the recievers aveaging 2500 miles a week and truck driving?

And drivers who drive day cabs work hard too.. sometimes harder...

Hi Bren, I hauled RR trailers and containers out of Chicago for almost 5 years, and I heard that saying too,"if you don't need it, ship it by rail". Maybe it's gotten a little better, but taking it to the rail yard just adds an extra step to the hauling process. Many times, a trailer will sit in the rail yard, until they have a full train going to that destination, and same on the other end, these RR employees work like turtles, and it can sit on a siding for a while before it gets unloaded. I've waited for hours (for free) at times, just waiting to get in those places, or the wagon got unloaded at a different yard( Conrail was great at that) Also, people don't realize, it's a rough ride on the train, and I always opened up the doors with caution, and many times the load would be all over the place. Intermodal is ok for long distance, but for shorter stuff, it's better to just drag it there by truck.

The tning is... a lot of companies, especially the bigger ones, dont fire drivers for poor performance. . They just dont give them miles.. they throw crumbs at them until tney quit.... that way they are not paying unemployment. ..

When I was in orientation there was another female in class and we became friends and nave kept intouch..

At first, sne was happy, got assigned a nice new black casscadia with an APU and was running 2500 or more a week..then her and boyfriend started having trouble.. and that really impacted her performance.. she was on hometime and instead of getting back on the road in the morning, she didnt get started till after 3pm... then shut down at 7pm. Cause she was arguing on the phone with her boyfriend..

Stuff like happened more and more, she had 3 preventable incidents. . Took out a pole, tore up some asphalt turni g around in a lot that had a "no semi trucks' sign posted, damaged a fence at a shippers..
She was argumentative and combative with dispatch, and was late more than a few times, often when wah out of route, either to hook up with ner boyfriend or once to get her hair and nails done and ran out of HOS so was late with ner load again..

Well.. her miles and pay dwindled and dwindled... last week she had more messed up loads... left overs... and only made $356... so.. she finally quit...

Now she will tell you.. werner is a bad company... she is looking for a job if anyone wants to hire her... I know I wouldnt...

Semi... you are right about it being a rough ride... the trailers on that account took a beating...

I picked up a lot of loads from the rail yard to deliver to Bass Pro... and more often then not, when I opened the doors boxes would fall out...

I didnt mind being on the account.. it was a good start for a new driver.. there was a lot of hoopla though... faxing B.O.Ls, or worse having to wait for B.O.Ls to be faxed so I could deliver...

I must say.. I would do it as a company driver in a company truck.. but no way as an O/O... some of the rail yards are rough.. it is off road trucking... and hard on the trucks and trailers...

Now that I think about it... I had quit a few tire problems on that account... but, havent one yet on this flatbed gig..

Now on this flatbed gig I am in a daycab... but, I actually dont mind it since I am home every night... I have only been delayed and ran out of hours a few times.. so they put me up in hotel... but, I was glad.. once was on a tough day of two double tarped loads and all four tarps put up a fight.. the hotel had a hot tub and that was awesome... another time was when it was crazy hot and humid.. and the super 8 had a nice cool pool... so didnt mind...

So u don't like Werner so you just wanna take the trk to wherever huh. What Werner will do is send another driver to recover the trk and charge you along with cleaning the trk. They'll take the money out of your last paycheck and maybe direct deposit if you have that.If you don't have all the money to pay for it then don't be surprised if Werner sues u for the rest. You wanna leave Werner because u have trouble finding a parking spot not enough miles or both?Abandoning a vehicle is the cowards way out.Werner has a lot of terminals and drop yards.Be a smart cookie and take the truck there.

Simple. Request home time in Dallas. Get to Dallas, quit. Problem solved.

What on earth is the possible positive outcome from just walking away and abandoning the truck, trailer and maybe a load too? Are you going to "show them?" No way, they have employees ready to go get the rig. Will it advance your career? Will it help with your self esteem? Will it make your mother proud? I'm just having a hard time seeing it as any kind of option that a sane person would take.
