Just an FYI to the OP.

I have a co-worker who did abandoned a truck that belonged to the company he first went to work for. He left it in Denver and jumped on a plane to go back to Maryland. He called said "I quit" and they said "OK not a problem"

A few months a call from their legal department who wants him to pay for the recovery of the truck, trailer and the damage that happened when he left the truck. It came to something like $27,000. He ended up going to court over it, losing and paying in instalments that amount and court costs.

I dont blame companies for going after drivers who abandon their trucks... when we take the keys to a truck we are taking responsibility for that truck... and a driver abandoning a truck doest tell me he/she must of been with a bad company. .. it tells me he/she was an irresponsible person....

Problem solved: Call up dispatch, tell them you had too much to drink last night and you can't drive until you shake the hang over, unless they're cool with a little 'hair of the dog'.

You'll get to leave the truck where ever it's parked with company permission.

Well, if I wasn't able to get a job after abandoning a truck, then your advise and everyone else's would be correct. But again never been charged, and always found work so not sure what everyone else is crying about. When a company fires you they not going to give you notice, or make it convienent for you to be able to get home. What's good for the goose is good for the gander in my book.

that's the way i look at it.

you get treated like dirt by the megas anyways. and you KNOW darn well they will trash your dac regardless of what you do. for the most part.

all they're going to do. is have another drive go passenger on someone else's truck. to take a load and pick up the truck. doesn't cost them anything for recovery.

stay away from the megas. and no one will care that your dac says abandoment.

It just blows me away that people are saying "go ahead and abandon the truck" What ever happened to pride and personal responsibility? You have somebody elses property and you are responsible for it until you give it back to them. What kind of parents raised you people?

That went out the window when companies lowered their hiring standards. The drivers that think it's ok to abandon a truck are the same drivers who piss in bottles, #### in plastic bags, go days without a shower, park at fuel islands, etc.
