Hey this my first time on here, just got hired on to be a driver trainee for ABF, have automatic restriction on cdl. Do they work with automatic transmission for LTL or should I just quit. Thank you in advance to anyone who can answer this for me.

They might be planning on training you and testing you out in a manual.

Why don't you ask them? Or at least give them a heads up on your limitations before they agreed to hire you?

They know as soon as they ran his MVR what's on his license.

Makes sense. So the questions point is...? If they know, then they sure wouldn't want to punish him with a manual, or will they? lol. I learned on a 13 sp manual in 1974 so this trainee stuff is kinda out of my league.

The way I see it, the trend to moving to 100% automatic on fleets across the country is making an auto restriction a non-issue these days.

Thanks, and yeah I figured I ask the forum, because I can’t get a straight answer from anybody on the situation. Wanted to see if any ABF guys would answer. And yeah I’m a rookie, and yeah I’m terrible with manuals, almost blow out 2.

If they hired you, they already know that you have an automatic restriction so you don’t need to quit over it. The only question to ask is if they will leave it at that or if they will train you on a manual to get the restriction removed. That would have been an great question to ask during the interview.
