I'm not going to claim that ABF is a horrible company to work for, but I do want to dispel the myth that ABF is the great company that so many have been led to believe.

For starters, this company performs ridiculously lengthy and extensive background checks on any potential new drivers; much more so than probably any other company, and all for a job that pays, up here in the New England area ... max... about $24.00 bucks an hour. To drive a truck. Not particularly great or unusually high.

Also, if you are able to even pass these ridiculous 'background checks', then you will have to start as a part time casual; and at about $19.00 bucks an hour.... good luck getting enough hours to feed your family, let alone yourself. And those start times of 2 AM, then 4PM, then 10 PM, then 1AM don't make life any easier.

If someone claims to be busting a hundred grand a year here, well, that dinosaur is all but extinct. Do the math; even with tons of overtime, how is $24.00 bucks an hour going to add up to ultra dollar amounts?

Most guys here, even with years of experience are lucky to be making $60,000 - $70,000 grand a year. In this day and age, even mega bottom feeders like Schneider and Knight are beginning to catch up. And with benefits as well, minus the pension (offered currently at ABF) that may or may not be there in a few years.

If you're considering a position with this company, shop around; even though you are being trained to think otherwise, right now they all need you every bit as much as you need them... maybe even a little bit more.

Yeah but home nightly is overrated for a lot of drivers. Especially with absurd 2 am start times and long commutes to/from the yard. Technically, being OTR is working from home since your house is always two feet behind you.

Depends, if you have a house and family then 0TR sucks. For a young person with no attachments it makes no difference if you sleep in a truck or some overpriced tiny apartment.

What a great advertisement for the "OTR Lifestyle"!
"You too can join up, and become one of the Mobile Homeless".
