Both are great, but go with UPS/Frt.
You on your way to a good lasting job. -
Be careful. I was offered a casual driving position at ABF and found out the contract allowed them to pay $ 5.00 less than scale if I was not driving.ACH1130 Thanks this.

Umm I work for them and we are not going under any time soon. Proftis are high for company, freight coming in like crazy... in my area we have about 4-5 trucks, 3 with 40 foot trailers, where as the other companies only have 1, MAYBE 2. We have gotten a lot of freight back, for about 3 weeks I was doing about 18 stops, 3 different trailers, and was having to work through my lunch break...
Now back on subject, both are very very good companies. I interviewed for ABF and if you go to the school you are locked onto a 2 year contract and if your quit you owe them for the schooling. From what I know, ABF has a very low turnover which is good and bad at the same time. Friend of mine works at UPSF and seems to enjoy it, although it got slow in his area and only getting maybe 30-35 hours a week. But if UPSF offers you full time I would go with that, being a casual and living by the phone is no way to live and work. I did that at my last job which I will keep the company silent. Try for YRC as well, even though I was hired for full-time I have to start as casual for first hundred days. Im a city driver and my start time is at 8am, if theres no work, I go home and dont have to come back till next day. Ive worked everyday so far
Also I worked for FedEx ground as well. Guess you are a regular driver like I was and we both probly have the same things we didnt agree withCpaige304 Thanks this. -
never mind the $5 less per hour how about the 3 years or more to get to the top rate anymore. plus the waiting by the phone to see if your going to work. oh and if you work at YRC they are only paying $1.25 into your pension and to top all that off you make 15% less than what the contract says because of concessions. So that YRC driver that says hes making .64cpm make sure you deduct that 15% than its really .53cpm. The reason right now that most of the union LTL companies are hiring right now is because of upcoming vacations. I been there done that for 12 years. you guys want to know whats up ill tell you. you might not like to hear it but I know the union end of the business.

Im a city driver lol, not line-haul. I was hired because someone got fired over the winter...
-
Just because you would work for ABF wouldn't put you in central states it all depends on what part of the country your in.
-
did you make the seniority list yet? and as a city driver you still are paid 15% less than the contract states.
-
not yet still got some time to go and I understand the 15% less, but right now Im just happy to have a job
