Well ABF is over hiring. You will get hired work pretty good for awhile then sit and sit. No work on call. No vacation for the first three years. That's right NO vacation for 3 years. 5 paid personal days. Brutal. You best have a lot of money to work here cause you are going to need it

I agree. They are up to no good. Over hiring, no vacation for drivers for almost 3 years really, sit in extra board no pay, run scabs while you sit it's just getting worse and worse. Avoid avoid

Well all I can tell you is you best do your homework before trying to come to ABF. Years ago a great job now they are moving toward the Conway/XPO model. It's sad they hire drivers to cover their busy period then u sit and sit no pay no vacation for up to 3 years. So u best like sitting at home waiting by the phone.

It seems they are hiring quite often here in Phoenix.

They just leave the "we are hiring" sign up all the time. Makes no sense for them to be taking on more drivers as slow as we are. Seems to be system wide

Just telling you what the recruiter won't. An inside prospective. Make of it what you want. If you want to know anything specific I'll try to answer your question.

Here's the thing. ABF isn't a horrible place to work, actually they pretty much leave you alone if you do your job so the climate here is very calm. However if you are a driver that needs a paycheck every week to survive then ABF is not the place to hire on to. If for example you are a double income family and you can live on one paycheck then it may be worth your time. It takes 6-8 years to run regular here and again that depends a lot on the area and terminal you work in. So lean years in the beginning but if you can stick it out then not so bad. Remember no vacation until your 3rd year then one week until your 8th year.

This post pretty much sums up LTL in general with a few exceptions.

You are right. They pay almost as much as UPS. Seniority is everything. You gotta be able to afford a few lean years until you gain seniority. Buds? Forget it for several years if you want a bid that pays anything. So as I've said, not a bad place to work you just gotta give up all life for a few years, live lean for a few years and then maybe you will think it all worth it? Then maybe not??
