Same here. And I'm OTR long haul.

If my experiences in LTL have enlightened me on anything it's that the company means almost nothing. It's the culture and management practices at a particular terminal that make it a great place to work or a nightmare.Dale thompson Thanks this.

Honestly even Central Transport, as bad as that place is, starts line haul guys out at $25.50/hr in my area. When I worked at ABF briefly as a casual it was $19/hr which is pretty low by today's standards. And the equipment and terminal were all dilapidated junk. Company's like OD are cleaning these's guy's clocks for reason I'm sorry to say. (Not that I'm any Old D nut swinger or anything...I worked there too for about a year and they too had their own brand of BS to contend with.)Last edited: Mar 5, 2017
Canned Spam and driverjoe1959 Thank this. -
That's what I'm trying to get across here. ABF ain't what it use to be. I know everyone pays their dues but they really are pushing it. Yah u got some 90k a year drivers that say everything is great but maybe in a particular region. System wide they are moving toward the XPO model and they are really trying to get rid of the union. All I'm trying to do is tell the new guys to do their homework before buying that we all mKe 90k a year and get 5 weeks vac. You sit a lot, need to be able to live lean 6-8 years, no life no unobligated time. ABF isn't a bad place to work but it ain't what it use to be.

I never liked the whole union model anyways. I understand you have to keep score somehow and seniority is by far the easiest (laziest?) way to do that, but if you're a go-getter that type of political climate won't do anything but hold you back.
Western flyer and driverjoe1959 Thank this. -
Yah I think so too. ABF is a nice environment great corporate culture. I don't think there are too many that can say this isn't a nice group to work with however.....

Live lean 6-8 years? I understand you're disgruntled amd rightfully so, but several people that work for ABF have posted completely opposite experiences from yours in the many ABF threads you are replying to. Your experience is in the minority, yet everyone with a positive experience you write off as "not the norm".
You need to put on your big boy pants on, be a man and walk away. Find something better. Saying you are gonna stick around to bring the company down is ridiculous and makes me think there's more to this story. Especially since you've been there seven years.
Did you just now decide the job stinks?
After 3 years sitting at home by the phone didn't send red flags? After 4 years? 5 years?
I don't get it.Lonesome Thanks this. -
I don't care what u think lol god who do u think you are.

Big boy pants lol that's pretty funny. What trucker lounge did u pick that one up in ?
